I just bought some Donahue racing coil overs that are meant for a tundra 2000 to 2006 and I was curious if the top plate had the same bolt pattern as a first GEN Tacoma, they are valved for a full-size truck but have 550 pound Springs so they should ride pretty good, any info helps thanks.

Also if you guys are running at the Donahue or older icons, I am curious to how they perform and the reviews on them

As long as the top plate has 6 holes it will work. Many of the old Donahoes had mounting holes for the tacoma/4runner and tundra/sequoia on the same coilovers.

I had a pair of kings from *allegedly* a first gen tundra with coil bucket adapters that seemed to fit my taco with no problem. Only had 3 holes per side. Think the other holes were only for 4 runners?

AFAIK 1st gen tundra is the same as tacoma but rotated 180, So most coil adapters needed to be flipped. 3rd gen 4Runner is the same as Bestgen Tacoma's.

What do you gain by using the Tundra shock?? Heavier spring, larger shaft??

Same shaft. Spring is probably heavier . Valving is probably stiffer too.

There is a member here that runs the tundra 5100s as it gives more hight adjustment perches I think- the valving is probably stiffer but he didn't mind. Heck if you have armor it's probably a legit upgrade path.

I guess it didn't matter for the kings I had holding my truck up that were "from a first gen Tundra" according to the guy I bought them from - or he doesn't know a Tundra from a hole in the ground haha. I sold the CO's to a guy who was putting them on another Tundra after they had bolted right up to my Tacoma so I hope he doesn't have a problem. Are oem shock shafts unable to rotate in the body - I feel like there's something missing to this thread that hasn't addressed if there's a difference between oem style shocks and eyelet coilovers. :notsure:

I've been running 1st gen Tundra 5100's with 2nd gen coils off a 2015 4wd sport , valving on the tundra billies are slightly more than standard 5100's for tacomas don't even notice. The ride IS firmer but not bad and I benefit from a slightly longer coil , non progressive unlike the stock 1st gen coils

I know this is an old thread but I cant find the answer I need anywhere. I have a fabtech 6" lift with full length fabtech coilovers (no top spacer). Will coilovers for a tundra with a 6" lift work?

Most of them will work, the coilovers that do will have 6 bolts on top, 3 for tundra and 3 for Tacoma and 4Runner installation, if they are tundra coilovers and have 3 holes in the plate then you might need to drill new ones, not forsure on that, but they are the exact same length as taco ones

Thank you, I really appreciate the help. I am going to look around and see what I can find right now. I was hoping to be able to just get some bilsteins and eibach coils.

So wait, you have the fabtech 6" kit with full length (i.e. 6" longer) coilovers, and you're asking if coilovers for a (presumably stock) Tundra will fit?

If I'm understanding what you're asking correctly, no, they won't fit without a spacer.

But if you're buying new shocks, just get shocks/springs that are valved for your application. You're not going to save a bunch of money by getting tundra shocks unless you're getting old used ones.

Thanks man I appreciate the offer. I will be buying them new, just trying to figure out what my options are.

So the part number on the shocks I have on now is FT70001.
    20200707_173613[1].jpg
There is no spacer that I can see on the top hat.

I called Bilsteins CA distributor yesterday and spoke with a tech. He said that they have the direct replacement 5100s for the stock height but would require a spacer. He didnt have any other suggestions. I have seen posts of poeple using the first gen tundra coils on 1st gen tacos. Bilstein does have a direct replacement for a tundra with a 5-6 inch lift I believe. I have also read that Eibach 660s i believe will work. I know that King and Radflow have some direct replacements valved for a taco but they are 1400 plus dollars. I will be putting on front and rear plate bumpers and full skid plates too here soon so maybe the valving for a tundra is more appropriate. Not trying to cut corners but if I can get a new set of complete coil overs for a couple hundred less and have the added weight capability I would like to take that route.

Yeah, the lower section of that shock is way longer than a stock shock because of your lift. God, that looks like it's a foot longer than my old shocks, lol.

King makes a shock that will fit, and there are probably a few others of the mid/high end shocks that will fit, too. Those are obviously rather pricey though.

But yeah, 5100s and any other "stock replacement" will not fit there unless you also the the spacer that some of those 6" lifts come with. Rough Country make an el cheap-o lift that uses spacers so you can use the stock shocks (one way they make the lift kit so cheap).

You can see the cylinders here that are the shock spacers. You're going to need something like that if you want to use a "stock replacement" shock.
