I'm wanting to do the tundra front brake upgrade. I have a 95.5 Tacoma, and I need to know what year tundra parts I need to get. New to Tacoma trucks so I'm not sure what parts to get.
    Thanks

Good question same with me for a 2009 TRD I would like to do the same or just get new rotors and pads from ebc. I use ebc for my Harley and both my quads. I pull my boat on the weekends on my Tacoma and last year I had a Chevy half ton. So brakes weren't an issue.

I'm looking at pulling a glass drift boat so I'm hoping to do the upgrade.
Hopefully some of the Tacoma gurus will chime in

    I have the 231mm Tundra up-grade. IIRC, 2003.
You will need to drill out the end/ tip of the Tacoma banjo bolt on a drill press to insure proper seating into the Tundra caliper.

Everything else is straight forward from there.

One of the best mods I've done to the truck. 2005 Tundra V8 4x4 parts. Everything you'll need to know:

That is a solid write up. Is it going to be the same for a second gen taco? I see the article is for a 1st Gen.

Sorry, this was in reference to 1st gens.

I'm not very familiar with the 2nd gen brakes, but I believe the wheel bolt patterns are the same? I've only ever heard of this swap on a 1st gen, so I couldn't be of much help in that regard. Maybe someone's done it before and the 2nd gen section would have answers?

Thanks for that. I ain't familiar with the truck as far as the brakes. I haven't serviced them since I've owned it. They are starting to surge a little so I will be servicing them soon. I have heard that the TRD brakes are 4 piston already so pads and rotors will be a sufficient upgrade to the performances of them. But hey, where else to go to ask questions right?

No worries. I'm sure there are companies (EBC, Brembo, Stoptech, etc) that make performance-spec pads and rotors you could swap in easily and get noticeable improvement. That'd be simple and cheaper, too. Worth a try.

Yeah that's where I'm at, but the upgrades to these trucks are like tattoos. 1 thing leads to another next thing you know you're covered.

I got my calipers from a 2005 2wd Tundra. 2004-06 will work. The important thing is to be sure the caliper has the 13WL stamping on it. The same calipers are on the Sequoia of the same age.

If you upgrade the brake lines with the ones from Wheelers offroad (and use their banjo bolts), then you don't have to drill out the stock banjo bolts.

A buddy I wheel with has a 2013 TRD Tacoma. His brakes are the 231mm so no need for the up-grade. I'm not sure of other 2nd gens.

That's cool to know. I will take a wheel off and figure it out first hand. I need a tire rotation anyways. Thanks for that.

IIRC, the 13WL version is the 199mm which are smaller. I could be wrong.

Does anyone have a pic to verify to help OP?

Here are the part numbers which I originally purchased from NAPA:

    RT side caliper: LE 3264 (loaded w/hardware) $100.00 re-furbished
    LF side caliper: LE 3263 (loaded w/hardware) $100.00 re-furbished
    Rotors: UP 86931 2 @ $50.00 ea

These are 2010 prices which may vary.

Recently, I did replace rotors due to rust while sitting out, exposed to the rain. I went with Toyota rotors which are a much better piece than aftermarket.

    Good luck.

The 13WL's are the 231mm. The 199mm is the 13WE. This is referenced in the 1st paragraph of that write-up I linked up at the beginning. Not sure what needs to be verified, or what the issue is?

Sequoias up to 07 have the 13wl calipers.

Fwiw, I bought my calipers off eBay and got new pads and rotors from Toyota.

I have the 13WL and the only modification needed was the small trimming of the dust shield everything was bolt on and smooth, I used wheelers brake lines too.

For those that prefer videos over write-ups, my buddy Sean and I have a video you could use as a tutorial for this upgrade. We did the upgrade for a 3rd Gen 4runner but it's very similar. A subscriber to our channel did say they needed to install the wheelers brake line kit to make it work because the OEM fittings on your Tacos don't match up right with the Tundra calipers.
