I wouldn't go with the LCE kit. You're paying OEM prices for that for non-OEM quality parts.

Personally, I'd go OEM. Well, I did go OEM, twice - on both my Tacoma and 4Runner. Couldn't be happier.

Here's a link to the process with links to all the parts you'll need, and a step-by-step on the install.

    Tundra Brake Upgrade
Here's the parts list if that's all you are looking for:
Also, if you want info on OEM vs. non-OEM, here's a good link.

yes, there is a reasonably dramatic performance difference between the 199 and 231mm calipers. The link above that compares OEM/non-OEM also talks about the 199/231 difference a bit.

The 231's DO fit stock 16" wheels.

Great, I'll likely order all the parts myself then (going to have a shop install tho). If I have a ~2.5 OME lift, anything I need to order additionally? Seems like it's all covered in that list, thank you!

Icon/TC Mid travel, TRD S/C, PNP Greddy EMU, 625cc injectors, 2.2 pulley, Hayden tranny cooler, AEM wideband, TRD boost gauge.
I second OEM (hypocritically). But I haven't had issues with an Amazon kit I bought where the rotors and pads are not OEM. The kit is for Tundras so it didn't come with brake lines to adapt- but I didn't need them, I went with longer S/S lines a long time ago for my additional wheel travel/lift and they coincidentally fit the Tundra calipers just like the Stoptech ones do (but mine are Goodridge). I do admire the guys that get the 4runner brake line parts to work that have the hard-line element and bracket.

To sum it up, its such few parts its really easy to just piece together.

One of the best modes I've ever done as my increased spinning mass was very very perceivable. My last trip to Big Bear really beat up the OEM brakes and that was before my additional mass, so IMO this mod is crucial.

Nope, that list I gave you is all you'll need even with the lift.

Parts have now been installed. Upgrade is significant but not SUPER dramatic. Brakes feel super solid and stronger than before. Much better loaded on downhills.

I’d recommend this to anyone but not necessarily a MUST HAVE.

Note: Installed with my stock 16” snowflake rims.

    Any questions?

Thanks to @turbodb for the parts list and @Beater_Bimmer for the feedback. I’ve thought about this mod for ten years and two Gen 1 DCs. Glad to have first-hand feedback on the performance difference. That’s not often found.

ISTR the original Tacoma dust shields need to be modified (cut back to clear the new calipers if my memory’s not wrong). Is that right?

Yes, the dust shields needed to be trimmed slightly.

    Good to know!
I have been tossing the idea of doing this around in my noggin for awhile now.

Nice to hear. My experience with braking was the same. Ultimately I think the best part of this upgrade for me was that I can now do more downhill braking over longer distances - as I come down trails - without having to worry about brake fade or overheating, even with my fully loaded truck.

Do you just mean parts or labor as well? Parts are linked above @ the following prices, which I'm sure vary slightly
So that's $538 plus labor. And labor is reasonably straight forward, so could just be your time if you have the tools (a few sockets, and the means to jack up the front end).

I did this to my ‘02 4R. Best upgrade for the money. This pig will push you into the windshield when stomping on the brakes. I run 231mm drilled/slotted rotors, performance calipers I bought from Rockauto, pads are the HD Towing/Topping pads and because of the increased braking pressure I added stainless steel lines. I ran them with stock Tacoma wheels for a while with no interference.

Where did you find 2 OEM Tundra rotors for 128.00?

I can't tell if you're serious or not. (Those underlined bits of text in a web page are hyperlinks. They take you interesting places, in this case to purchase items... :p)

128.00 + shipping + tax. Now that makes a little more sense. Hyperlink works. :D
