When I was taco shopping I asked the saleman what the difference between a TRD OR and a TSS OR is. I though maybe toyota has two branches. Like Dodge has R/T and SRT. The guy just told me TRD is a nicer ride. Im still curious though, what do those TSS guys have? What does it even mean? Toyota Safety Sense or Sports Series? I originally thought the latter.

Compare the SR5 with the TRD Offroad. The TSS is an SR5 with distributor wheels and side steps.

TSS is a port installed package, I believe the SE region, its basically an Sr5 with some wheels/tires, badging, etc.

TSS is an SET and GST thing. They take an SR5 or SR from the factory and dress it with wheels and graphics at the port then charge the same as a TRD. It's really a pretty shady practice. It's akin to the 3" spacer lifted trucks they sell marked up thousands. In some respects I'm surprised Toyota is okay with it but maybe there isn't much they can do. SET and GST do a lot of shady stuff that Toyota NA doesn't.

Yeah they do, among other "protection" stuff. They tack those port installed protection packages on damn near every vehicle on the lot. You effectively can't get one without it and they charge hundreds if not thousands for stuff that's basically worthless. It's disgusting really but what can you do. I did all that I could which was buy out of state from Toyota NA.

The AZ dealers here love throwing on door sill and handle protectors (cheap ppf in those areas), "nitrogen filled tires" and tint and charge like $1399 for all that. I always tell them I don't want it and they can remove it or take it off the price.

SR rebadged as a “TSS OFFROAD”... it is a 2wd as well. Better (and cheaper) to order an SR with the black package. Note: no wheel flairs, etc. Marked up like it’s better than an SR5.
It is a GST thing... (Toyota Sport Series)
SET does the same thing as the XSP, XSP-X

Honestly it's an apples vs oranges comparison. If a dealer represents the package as anything related to Toyota Motors, it should be considered false advertising. If you like the package and can get a good price, go for it. I was able to get my SR with the package for only a few hundred more than a stock truck. So for me, it made sense

TSS is basically an overpriced SR. I see a lot of them down here in the Valley. Toyota of Pharr made all these guys suckers lmao.

Every Tundra down here is a TSS. The Tundra at least gets Good Year Duratrac tires. The Taco TSS SR gets stock tires and TSS SR5 gets BFGoodrich Rugged Terrain T/A tires. My friend got a TSS SR and was like "I got a badass Taco!"... He paid $34,000 for an SR with black wheels. I was like: "duuuude, Toyota bent you over like a MF"

For clarification, it does not, in fact, have a rear locker.
