I recently bought my first taco 2021 sr5 4x4 and changed the grill to a TRD pro but the sensor light comes up, how do I fix that?

Some people have issues with non oem garnish covers. You could have one of those.

I tried the washer trick but still isn't working. I tried up to 2 washers and still coming up. Where can I get an oem garnish?

It could be the transparency of the Garnish, and an OEM Garnish will only fit an OEM Pro Grille I believe and it's about $300.00 +

Try CTRL ALT DEL. Pull the negative, wait a few, then put it back.

More washers. Keep adding on or two and then drive around the block to test until the light goes away.

You DO NOT NEED an OEM garnish. Some aftermarket garnishes work, some don't. It's just not easy to tell which will and which won't work... we tested a few different manufacturers a while back, just like we did with our grilles, and we found one that works and we have had a less than 0.5% fail rate. Your best bet is to simply try a different aftermarket garnish. Return the one that doesn't work. REAL OEM garnishes cannot be bought for less than $300 (new) if you find one for $100 its not actually OEM.
We had a customer with this issue (he got his garnish on ebay) the dealer wanted to sell him a whole new harness, but he came to us first. we replaced the garnish for one of ours and problem solved.
Not all aftermarket garnishes are the same but there aren't many people out there who have seen or installed more than 1, we had a few thousand come through this shop...

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
If ya want it to perform as it was designed, then you're gonna have to coerce to top Toyota tech at the dealership to realign for ya.
My guy would do it BUT I'd have to prearrange with him and the service department as he ONLY does this kind of task early AM before the shop opens.

Yeah we have seen this too, a while does not mean 6 months though, usually no more than a week, if you drive your truck every day

First of all, it doesn't matter about where you got the garnish. They are multiple threads on this that detail that. But I digress. I assume you unplugged the battery while you did the swap of grills. Regarding the washer thing, you put one or two very thin washers between the grill and the sensor TOP screw. That way, you alter the angle of the sensor to the slight degree that will make it replicate the view of the stock OEM. Remember too, that the sensor works in conjunction with the camera that is in the windshield. This has also been documented and tested by various youtubers. Hope this helps...

I had to use 4 washers on each side. Even now, I still get the error from time to time. If you drive for a while, it'll go away, or if you turn the truck off and back on, it'll be gone.

True. The error will go away eventually. I drove across the country when I first got my truck, and about 45 minutes after I started the trip, the dang sensor light came on for the entire trip going from the west coast to the east coast! It would go off whenever I filled up with gas, only to come on again about 15 minutes or so after restarting my trip. So at first, I just thought it was the sensor cover in front, getting messed up with bugs, etc. But whenever I stopped for gas, and went to clean it, it wasn't dirty except for a couple of times. However, when I was on the outer banks of NC, I got up one morning there, and noticed that it didn't come on, and did not come on for the entire trip back from the east coast to the west coast. By that time, I had about 9000 miles on the truck, but the light went off around the mid-6000 mile range and has been working perfectly ever since. Regarding the washers, since you are trying to change the angle of the truck, putting the washers on each of the side bolts, is not what you want to do, but you want to put the washer on the TOP screw, between the grill and the sensor hole where the screw goes through. Doing so, will then push the top of the sensor back, thus resulting in the sensor pointing ever so slightly upwards, thereby compensating for the lower position of the sensor in a TRD Pro grill.

So it took about 6000 miles for your light to go off correct?

For sure thanks to everyone that commented. I'm gonna add one more washer to see if that works.

Yes, except for getting gas! I actually stopped into a Toyota dealer in Virginia, to complain about it and they even told me that it would eventually go off! But I told them that if I ever needed for a sensor to work, that it would be on a cross country drive, and I had driven all the way from the west coast to the east coast without the dang thing working! So that was pretty piss-poor, to quote an old term, of Toyota, I thought!
