Hey guys need some help. So I'm
Just finishing up my build on my 08 tacoma. Got it to fire up no problem after I first got it back together then after flipping it around in the garage it doesn't want to always start. I'm getting a code b2799 which deals with the engine immoblizer. One issue is the problem is hit and miss. Sometimes it will fire right up and other times it won't at all. I have tried all 3 keys that I have for it too. So now I'm lost on where to go next. Anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas?

what all did you have apart doing your build? Anything in or around the steering column by the ignition key or transponder amplifier?

I had the whole dash out. Last night I took it all back apart and everything is hooked back up. The weirdest thing is how it's hit or miss if it works

That one's gonna be hell to debug. Sure sounds like there is a loose connection or ground somewhere.

That was my guess too but I haven't found anything. I'm wondering if the immobilizer ecu can come unprogrnmed

As an IT person, I'd say no, especially considering your symptoms. If the ecu lost the programming it wouldn't just find it occasionally and let the truck start. You've got a bad part or loose connection somewhere.

So had the battery battery disconnected today and when I got home I hooked it up and tried it and it fired up, never shut it off and Did about 12 miles in it and when I got home I shut it off and then it started doing it again.

Did you ever find the error/solution? I'm running into the same issues with my 2008.
We've replaced ECU, Transponder/Antenna, Immobilizer unit...pretty much all parts involved with the immobilizer. Dealership even went so far as to bypass the wiring harness in order to rule out any wiring issues....still getting the error code.

Yeah the dealer ran new wires from the immobilzer to the ecu and it seemed to fix the issue
