2020 off road 4wd double cab factory remote start. 22k miles

this happened a couple months ago and the dealership said nothing was wrong. After I complained they replaced to battery and has been fine until today

    Here is what happened

I try to remote start the truck, it doesn't work. That happens right? I try again and it starts fine.

While the truck is still running I open the door, the truck keeps running. I get in press the brake, still runs. When I go to shift into a gear then it shuts off.

    put it back into park.

I press the start button, nothing. light come in the cab and everything acts likes its going to start and the starter never even try to to turn over. the only warning is in the dash and says "check charging system". no check engine light either.

at this point last time I jumped it and it was fine for a few days and then would not start at al so they replaced the battery. this time I think im going to have it towed so they can see its not starting

    thoughts?

Sounds like your door jamb switch is staying stuck down or closed when you open the door.
That’s why the truck does not turn itself off when you opened the door.

Try to recreate that with you manually holding down the door jamb switch and remote starting the truck, let it idle for a bit and then shift from park to drive. It should shutdown automatically. Then go back to restart all while still holding down the door jamb switch.

Rain, snow, and freezing temps.. likely some moisture got in the door jamb switch. Solid advice ^^.

I had a similar thing to what you describe happen to me last summer in my 2020 trd sport ,I remote started the truck then when I opened the door to get in it stayed running then it quit after putting it in gear and it wouldn't start or even turn over. I got out of the truck and and tried to remote start it again but it would not start I contemplated calling the dealer but decided to get in the truck and try it once more and sure enough it fired right up and worked fine and has never done it since ,a bit of a mystery for sure

    Hi, new here.

Thought I'd share my experience with this. It's the same as this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/remote-started-then-would-not-start.702361/

The exact same thing was happening to me as described.

Just got back from the dealer. I asked about all the theories. The tech said they've seen it before, he said it seems to just be a weak signal from the fob to truck. I asked about door jam switch, he said it isn't what sends the signal for truck to shut off. He said the problem is part of the system that senses your hand in the handle. He basically said the signal is strong enough to unlock but sometimes weak and slow to send signal for truck to shut off. He did a hard reset of the system, then the fob wouldn't work at all. He then reset the fob. As of now it has worked 4 times in a row. 2 off those times I grabbed the door handle and pulled fast, truck still shut off like it is suppose to.

If it stops working properly again, I'll post

    Cheers!

If you have a second FOB you might want to make sure it works.

Haha, sorry I don't mean to be a smart ass, but thanks tips! Yeah first thing I did was make sure the other one worked.

Exact thing as OP just happened to me right now.. hoping it starts.

other thing is I was just testing out my key fob that I hadn’t used in a while with a brand new battery in it. Have tried both fobs and truck still never tried to turn over. Voltimeter says that battery is at 12.3 (not his after a a few tries too… starter never engages, so there is never any voltage drop like you would normally test). This is buggy electronics/programming.

Edit… started, worked as normal after about 5 minutes of waiting.
