    Hey guys,

I just changed my headlights in my truck, and disconnected the battery for safety reasons

when I reconnected the battery I got a clicking which stopped once I secured the bolt. But now the truck won’t turn over, electronics are on but no start

I know Toyota has some reset you have to do but it’s been so long I don’t remember the process

    please help, thanks I’m advance

Did you fully disconnect or just remove the negative? Does your ground have a good connection? Hopefully someone with more experience will comment.

Do you have an aftermarket security system?

Only thing I can think is making sure both + & - are tight. Otherwise bad battery or needs charge, coincidence.

I’ve fully disconnected and replaced mine and never had to do a reset. Aftermarket anti theft might be a thing though.

    I disconnected the negative

both are secure as well as ground, battery is three months old and no aftermarket security system

if I remember correctly it has something to do with Toyota’s manufactured security system that needs a reset

The clicking sound and then no clicking sound tells me your battery needs a charge

It's normal for it to start and stall after a battery disconnect. On the 2nd attempt it will start. Or you can just leave the ignition on for a few seconds and it will usually start on the 1st try.

But it sounds like you have something else going on.

Did you remove the negative post 1st and reconnect it last? If not, you could have accidentally grounded the positive

It doesn’t matter how old it is cold weather will drain a battery

To clarify, the truck does not crank? Correct?
Or does it crank and not start.

Can you give us a picture of your key fob?

I’d start by check the battery voltage while cranking.

You might try the 7.5A STA and the 30A fuse.
Those are the fuse that have to do with the starting circuit.

You also need to be sure the gear shift is in park or neutral.
Other wise the STA relay will not work.

Puts a battery tester on it to make sure and it’s fine

No click right? I had this a few years ago and it was related to the security system. Took me way too long and I stashed away my notes. Going to try to find the stash lol ... but no click right? In my case it was security related. Looking ...

    Looks like the OEM fob.
So we can pretty much rule out aftermarket alarm

    Mine looks the same.
I have never had to reset anything after a battery disconnect.

    Does the truck NOT crank?
Or does it crank, but not start?

A voltage check doesn't mean much. Make sure it's a load test

    Let’s hope not.....:fingerscrossed:
Some of the bigger fuse are no fun to replace.
