Started my truck this morning, tried putting it in gear and the shifter moved just fine and on the electronic display in the dash it shifted to Drive, but gave it some gas and it would not budge. Put it back in park, tried shifting to drive again, and it would not move. Tried all the low gears, tried reverse, tried lifting and releasing the parking brake, nothing.

Got the shit towed to Toyota for them to take a look, but out of curiosity, anyone ever seen this before?

Another one of these, dang. Next time, if you have 4wd, engage and hit the gas as hard as you're comfortable to see if it'll unlock. Seems the brakes get stuck. Good luck.

Give it a lot of gas or bang on the rear brake drums with a hammer or something to help release the brake shoes.

Definitely this! To start with this could be the culprit. I’ve had it happen very briefly twice to mine. Just tried reverse and the drive and it popped right out of it. Sometimes if you wash it or don’t drive it for a few days the drums can stick a bit. Tell us what happens!

I'm a Yard Shifter and tandem axle trailer brakes almost always freeze after a few minutes. Solution is to use a lot of throttle.

Once mine did it when it was cold out and the other time it was warm out. Luckily I had seen the threads about this issue. Otherwise I would have been freaking out! Easy fix.

I don't think I've had this happen to mine yet. I'm guessing this happens a lot in humid enviorenments. One night I think my brakes might have been dragging cause I heard a quiet metal screeching sound but it could have been the wind for all I knew.

So they towed it on a flatbed truck so I don’t know how it got on there, but apparently when they got it to the dealer the tow truck guy hopped in my truck and just fuckin drove it off and parked it. The dealer called and said they can’t see anything wrong with it and it’s been driving fine, but when I asked them about the brake drums being stuck he told me “No, that would give off an ECU code and we would have seen it. Definitely not that.” He suggested it might be a cold start issue. Guess we’ll see tomorrow. Does this guy know what he’s talking about?

Dragging it onto the flatbed, or driving it off the flatbed, broke the rear brake shoes loose, so everything is back to normal now. That guy isn't aware of the common issue of the rear brakes "freezing" to the drums. It's a mechanical issue that won't throw a code. His "cold start" comment is laughable.

Man just had this happen to my old mans truck. Literally happened last Saturday, old man had the truck sit for about 3 weeks, parked on an incline with e brake engaged. Came home, started the truck and had the exact symptoms you’re having. I’m surprised your tow truck driver was able to get it on a flatbed, they towed my dads backwards with the ass end up.

Toyota emailed us on Monday saying that this is probably a brake based problem, and gave my dad a rental. Haven’t heard from them since.
I should’ve checked on here first before we called the tow truck driver, sounds like an easy fix but I didn’t want to chance it. Now who’s knows how long they’re going to keep the truck.

How can my brakes “freeze” to the drum? It’s been 90+ degrees for months here.

Are there skidmarks from where it was parked?

Also I'm not sure the truck would throw a code for stuck brakes. I've never seen that mentioned here.

Think stuck, not actually frozen as in cold. Rust can form quickly in the right conditions.

An ECU code for stuck brakes ? Ask him what the code number for that might be.

What is the humidity level and has it rained in the last day or so?
Also, asks for that guys name that said there would be a code for stuck drum, and request that he does not go anywhere near your truck.
