Vents controls is blowing air to floor, dash left, dash right, and windshield at same time. The center vent is blowing lower than the other vents. For some reason I can not change the setting. The knob turns but the vents all stay the same. The fan speed does work. What should I look at? Vacuum lines or some device that controls each vent port?

I checked out the link. It's not the right one. You are showing the device that control the temperature of the vents. I need information on what devices controls what vents are activated. floor vent only, dash vent only, windshield only, and the combination of the three.

Its still a great write-up I can use if the temperature control start acting up.

Anyone got information on vent control.

I am getting confused. Too much information. My problem is with the switch circled in my drawing. I only need to know what modules are controlled thru that switch only. Am I correct to assume the Mode Control Servo Motor has failed based on the illustration above. Do anyone have information on this module? Or is it another module causing the problem?

You gotta stick your head down there and turn the knob and see what kind of sounds, if any, are going on. Clicking would indicate broken teeth on the plastic gears. If no sounds then you can start diagnosing the switch itself or the servo wiring, making sure you're getting power and have good grounds. I don't know how accessible the servo motor is but it should consist of 7 wires. Black w/ Red trace is your power feed from the 10A GUAGE fuse. The White w/ black trace is your ground. The other five wires are your individual mode wires for the selector switch.

@Black DOG Lila 's diagram is helpful. If sounds like the mode control servo, or something downstream, is faulty.

Thanks guys. My background is car electronics. I will dig in this weekend. I will send an update once the troubleshooting begins.

I had this problem, with the air blowing out of all vents at once. The mechanism that directs the air to the vent, its like a big sliding arm on a track controlled by the servo motor. The sliding arm popped out of the track and got lodged in a little nook on the apparatus, this just so happened to open the vents in such a way that air went to every vent. hard to explain this, prob wont make sense till you look at it. I replaced the servo motor and placed the arm back into the track correctly and worked properly. HOWEVER, a few weeks later the arm again popped out of the track. I decided to just disconnect the motor and leave the arm off the track so that air comes out of all vents, I ended up liking it better that way anyway, and I don't want to have to keep reaching down there to place the arm back in place every few weeks. I don't think that mechanism was designed very well since this doesnt seem to be a rare thing.

Weak air movement to the windshield doesn't cut it in cold-weather areas unfortunately, especially when it's not properly activating and cycling the a/c unit in the "defrost" mode.

yeah i get that, im in GA so rarely have to defrost. the vents were stuck like this on my truck when i got it back in 09 so I got very used to it being that way, so much so that when i fixed it I found that the level 1 setting with air just coming out of the front vents was uncomfortably strong, i liked how it was just a very light breeze when its diluted out of all the vents.

My problem appear to have the same symptoms. All the vents are on. Floor vent, main vent, and windshield vent is on together. The servo motor control is trying to move the sliding arm. It appear to jam when selecting the main vents. The windsheld and floor combinations works. The main vent being selected seem to jam up. I pull the arm myself and it jam harder.

Can something have fell down in main vent ductwork and its cause the main vent to jam up. Is this a know issue.

My front vents do not seem to blow air and there is a faint ticking when the fan is going... All other locations work. Thoughts?

I have a similar problem on my 2000. The knob that changes the vent direction physically won’t turn to the defog setting to the far right. You can twist as hard as you can and she it just doesn’t wanna move. The other settings kind of work, I can hear the vents changing positions behind the dash but air flow is pretty weak and all over the place. Ie, foot blower setting also shoots air from forward vents/ forward vent setting only shoots air to the window vents.
