Alright guys I'm debating getting a tent for the bed of my 2016 Tacoma short bed. Does anyone have any brands they recommend? Also please share any pros or cons to camping with a tent on the bed of the truck. Not looking to do anything on a platform, just right in the bed. Thanks

Thanks I've been looking at theirs. Seems affordable too. Also, everyone feel free to post some pictures with your recommendations

Cons: you have to unpack all your shit every night to set your tent up.

I went with the Rightline Gear one mostly because it has no bottom liner. I can simply roll up by tonneau cover (Bak Revolver X2), setup the tent over the top of it and inflate my Airbedz. The dimmable LED bed lights come in handy as well.

I have a Napier and it works great. As mentioned before you have to unload the bed to setup the tent. Not a big deal for me. Also we use air mattresses which makes it very comfortable.

Where did you end up purchasing the tent from?

Are you getting any damage from the straps rubbing the side of the bed?

What's the advantage to these, versus a standalone tent?

No, the straps are nylon and the hooks/clips at the end are also nylon so it's not harsh on the paint. You don't really drive around with it up so there's no friction or rubbing happening. Once they are tightened, they don't move or shift. I suppose you could slip something even softer between the strap and paint if you wanted but it doesn't seem to be an issue.

Another vote for Napier!!! Love the tent! Keeps me off the ground, which I like. PRO TIP: Make sure you put a cloth between the tailgate straps and the tailgate, or you'll abrade the paint off the tailgate. Ask me how I know.

Airbedz are a great idea but very poor reliability. My first one crapped out within a few hours of being inflated. The second: Well, we'll see. If this doesn't work I'm going to just get a roll of foam rubber and call it a night (see what I did here?) .
