Yikes. I hope you had insurance, because a direct lightning strike can cause all kinds of headaches, not just a fried ECU. I've been through that, not my personal vehicle, but a fleet vehicle from a company I used to work for. Good luck

Happened to my brothers car. Parked with the tire on a tree root. Tree was struck by lightening and the current jumped across the tire to the wheel and blew everything in the car. The insurance company totaled it.

I hope I don't need to total it. Too nice of a truck to do that. So far I have one part to put on and its the four wheel drive because its stuck on four wheel drive...-_-

If you're going to file a claim to the insurance company, that will be for them to decide. Maybe take it to a reputable shop first and have them give you an estimate of what it would cost to fix the issues, and then decide if filing a claim is a good idea or not.

Yeah it's crazy how the electrical path can go. A few years ago there was a lightning strike close to my house. Everything looked and worked fine until I went to open an electric garage door. It wouldn't work. Started to take it apart and found a tiny burn hole in the circuit board. It could've been horror show with flat panel tv, computers, modem, router, kitchen appliances.....

Hopefully the place you bring it to will have an automotive electrical guru!!

Just for S&Gs, were you able to pull any codes?

Good Luck, here's to your truck coming out of this like you want .

Any updates from those who had their Tacoma repaired after a nearby lightning strike? I'm working through this process right now with my 2019 that got the EMP treatment, wouldn't start, fried ECU, then problems communicating with other various computers to the point where I am awaiting the entire wiring harness to be replaced. I'm concerned that the truck is never going be the same in terms of random component failures from this point on and might just sell it and buy another. Might reconsider that angle after getting feedback from some of those who have had a similar experience. Any lingering problems months/years after the repair?
