Hey guys. Recently bought a 5 speed 2004 Toyota Tacoma and it only starts with the clutch start cancel button. Previous owner said it stopped working with the clutch and just started using the CSC button. I tried changing the clutch ignition switch down by the pedal and checked for any loose bolts but nothing worked. Got any ideas?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Physical damage to the wires .

Switch not adjusted correct or your new switch does not work.

The only problem it can be.

Put truck in neutral, apply parking brake then get out, find the switch behind the pedal and depress with one hand then use other hand to turn key. If the truck cranks then this will confirm the circuit is good and your pedel for some reason is not making good contact.

This happened to me where I had to press really hard on the pedal to make contact with the switch. I used this method to confirm the circuit worked. Mechanic told me my clutch pedal was riding high and that was a sign the clutch was wearing out. Not sure if this was BS but also made some sense that if the pedal was starting from a higher position, it might run out of travel before triggering the switch. I already had 200 K on the clutch and more than one instance of burning clutch smell when backing up uphill so I went ahead and had the clutch replaced. Clutch switch problem went away immediately afterwards without changing the slave or master cylinder or the switch.

I had that problem on my 2nd gen. I dont know at all if it's the same but I located the sensor behind the clutch pedal that registers to the computer that the clutch pedal is depressed and I cant remember if I adjusted it or layered it with tape so that it would register, but fixed the problem for sure several years ago. Like, there was a little button that wasnt getting pushed far enough. It was that simple. I also had problems getting into 4WD cause of this too. All good now.

edit: sorry, i didnt read well. i am of no help.

Adjust things so that the clutch pedal closes the switch.

In many cases the switch just vibrated loose . So thread the switch to where it works and tighten the lock nut.

Also make sure the clutch bracket or the firewall are not broken
