Hadn’t seen a set up like this. I’m either crazy or a genius... or a crazy genius! Next up is drawers in the bed that I can sleep on top ofBA2F65D9-FA23-4FC6-AA27-1B21638A1505.jpg

that looks nice but man that's alot of leverage on those bed rails which the tacoma bed is already known to be not the strongest to begin with. Have any pictures of how it mounts and secures inside the cap?

Is that rack made to fit a tacoma? Seems oversized. Most I've seen rests on the top bed rails and doesn't extend width or even the length like this one.

Yes it’s specifically designed for the Tacoma it’s a Rack it 3000. Here’s where it connects to the bed1055A0CB-CFD4-4ED6-9328-26ED88E1C99B.jpg6C947E02-8368-4E7E-8F7F-073703D9ECB1.jpg 1055A0CB-CFD4-4ED6-9328-26ED88E1C99B.jpg

    77130E1C-5D01-43E3-8C70-0B919058301C.jpg

It drills into the only steel in the bed by the tailgate. By the cab a steel arm goes down and is connected to the bolt that goes through the bed to the frame. So it’s supported on steel, not the composite bed sides

I’ve seen something similar on a first gen, someone had done some fab work on the rack to make it work with the topper. Nice looking set up!

I’d like to do that but I don’t think any stiffeners would fit with the rear rack support. They’re in the same place

I’m hauling lumber multiple times a week and I hated having the tailgate and/or the canopy window open. 6 foot is a “long bed” my ass. I looked into different roof racks on the canopy but for the weight capability I needed it just seemed like it would fail and break the fiberglass SnugTop. I also considered that I will 90% of the time use it for work and 10% of the time use it to throw kayaks, bikes, or whatever up there for camping, so I’ll add a couple cross bars for that and get the lumber rack to work for camping rather than a roof rack work for lumber

That's a very well thought out design, I think you'll be good!

    Hey!

Do you notice the rack bouncing when going highway speeds? I Just got one on 1st gen tundra over my shell and notice that it sometimes bounces going above 60. Thanks!

Nope, no bouncing. I did get their overpriced wind deflector and that has helped mpg with and without heavy loads. When I’ve got a decent amount of lumber up there I’m in 3rd gear going uphill on the highway. Not winning any races but this little truck should last til 400k

Right on! For some reason my just started to bounce. I am wondering if it is because I took off the clamps and bolted the camper shell down. Might have to re-clamp it along with the bolts on it. IMG_1180.jpg

Yeah you need to use the clamps that came with the rack

Only problem with those RackIt racks pictured is they're floating way too high above the topper/cab. Looks like they're levitating.

I have a KargoMastger III rack (with a utility cap on back) that hugs the roof much closer, about 1/2" to the top of the (high-profile) rear cap, about 6-7" to the top of the cab.

I would like to upgrade to a forklift-loadable rack style but so far I haven't seen any manufacturers make one for the Taco. Only for full-sized trucks. Makes sense. Typically if you need a forklift to throw 10 sheets of 5/8" drywall or plywood on top of a truck, you need a full-size truck.
