Was driving at about 25 mph when the engine just died. Came to a stop and tried starting it, but it won’t. Radio and fans turn on, and the engine will crank, but it won’t turn on. Any ideas? Fuse maybe?

How much gas is in it?
Seriously, more than 1 person has run out of gas with the gauge showing 1/4 or so....

A similar scenario happened to me before, the timing belt needed to be replaced.

Other than that, the problem could be a bad fuel pump.

yeah. I’m thinking fuel pump. Especially at this age. Either that or a fuel pump fuse/relay, but I’m having a hard time seeing where the fuse location for that would be

Check for spark to rule it out, if no spark I’ve seen one bad crank sensor. Not common but they can fail.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’m gonna go with a fuel pump relay

Check to make sure the battery terminals didn't pop off.

Battery terminals must be good because radio and everything electronic works. It will even try to crank the engine to turn on, but the engine won’t.

What do you mean check for spark? As in test the coil packs for electricity with a multimeter?

Starting fluid is you friend. Pull the air filter and spray 2-3 secs hold the throttle half open and crank. If it starts it’s fuel related and most likely a fuel pump. Have you changed the fuel filter recently? If not might not be a bad idea plus while it’s disconnected you could crank it and see if you have any fuel pressure up front

    will be trying this tomorrow.

What’s so weird is that I’ve tried two different OBD scanners, and they are not able to connect to the car. Both have always worked prior to this..

The EFI Relay feeds power to the C/Opn Relay.
There isn’t a “Fuel Pump” relay. You are looking for the EFI and C/Opn.

Since the 1st Gens have an external fuel filter. You might crack the line at the filter.
See if you have pressure. That is after you check the obvious, like fuses and such.

Any ideas on why my OBD scanner is unable to communicate with the truck after this? Was working fine a few days ago

Update: fixed the problem. Turned out the be two wires making contact on the passenger side. Not sure if was due to the infamous passenger side floorboard water leak, or due to one of the many crashes I’ve been in on this truck, or a bit of both.

Somehow these two made contact and caused my truck to just die lol.
