I've been debating getting a cap. MGM LB OR, and have not been seeing any used listings for LBs in my area. Priced out Leer/Century, Snugtop, and ARE. So far I can get the best deal on an ARE but it would require a 4 hrs travel (2 hrs each way or so). The ARE CX optioned out would be a bit under $3k with vented windoors, folding front, roof rack, carpet etc). LEER and snug would be about $600 more $3000-$3500.

Just found a good deal on a used Century. Vented windows (no windoors) carpet etc pretty basic ultra cap. Anyway the cap price is around $650 used but its silver sky instead of MGM. Trying to figure outhow this would looko_O. Wife doesn't think it would be a good idea. I thought about applying blk bedliner and calling it good, but then again new truck maybe I should just pay for what I want. Still $2000 price difference makes it tough because...well its $2k less....

Looking for opinions. Or pics of a MGM with a silver sky top

You could have the used cap repainted if you decide that you don't like it as is. Be aware that MGM is notoriously hard to match exactly.

You can add tracks and a roof rack of your choice to any cap that you buy.

I love mine. I don't think I'll have another truck without unless I own more than one truck. Windoors are a must. Sure, they are $450/per, but you will love them every time you need to reach near the cab to get something.

I ordered a Leer 100XQ for my 2020 Pro in Army Green. I chose this specific shell because of the shape of the side window mirrors the rear side windows of the truck. It makes it look like it belongs on the truck. Why spend $$$$ on a premium truck and slap on a cheap shell? It will only make the truck look cheap.

When I had my 2nd gen 2012. I bought used topper in silver, painted it to match MGM. If I remember right there was 6 variance for that paint code.

I've never had windoors on a cap so I clearly don't know what I'm missing. I do really like the convenience and security of a single lock in back that locks automatically along with the rest of the truck (and doesn't freeze in the winter the way the key locks always would).

Save the money and buy the used one. I found this red ARE on here for $800. Just had it rhino lined for $350.
Drove around for a month with it red. Took all kinds of crap for it from the wife and friends. Looks much better now.

Thanks for the comments so far.

That looks sharp with the rhino liner / cement combo. Was looking at that thread this morning and googling pics for MGM with sliver cap to get an idea how bad it would look. I'd like to save the money on used but I really want vented windoors which this one doesn't have. I'd love to be able to throw my gym bag etc through the side window when hauling the kids around in the back seats. Just emailed a used car dealer to see if they would be willing to separate a MGM LB cap from a used Taco listing they have. No response yet but I've heard people getting decent deals that way too. I do have a really good price from the ARE dealer for a new, I should probably just poney up the cash...

Just go to that dealer with cash, instead of emailing them. Cash is king...….

I'd color-match the used cap or just put a cheap coat of black on it (I think matte black works with MGM color). I think the silver would not look so hot.

It’s actually silver sky metallic but it does look like cement in the photo. I tried a local dealer as well for a used one. All they had were short beds though. Good luck!

I went with the Leer 100xr, decent value with a front sliding windoor, carpet interior, sliding windows all around. Right around 2500 out the door.

I went with leer. They don't advertise it but they have one called the legend that is exactly the same without having to overpay for the lifetime warranty, ask dealer they will know. One of the only options you cant get with it is keyless entry (frameless glass). I didn't want that anyways. Its 500 less.
I had a hard time finding a decent used one and decided since I have a nice newer truck may as well put a nice shell on it. I didn't care what my 95 Tacoma shell looked like, as long as it worked.

Both our 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen got canopies as one of the first mods; Back seat is full of kids, dog crate and all our other gear needs a dry safe space.

In both cases I found local canopy manufactures that build to order, paint match by code, let you pick and choose your options, deliver/install included, and still end up $2k less than the Lund/ARE/Snugtop quotes I was getting. We had the Arrow for 8 years and it was perfect, now three years into the Range Rider and it's great. No drips, locks never freeze, very happy with my choices..

If you end up going new its definitely worth paying 120 for the carpeted headliner. I almost decided I would do this on my own, glad I didn't.
I actually like the look of mismatched toppers as long as the colors work well with each other. When I was trying to decide I went to the photoshop thread to see if they could do some magic. No luck but I probably didn't give them enough to work with. I also opted not to get vented windoors (got regular 50/50 slider). I wanted to be able to vent the back but I didn't like the way the leer vented windoors look, the ARE ones don't look as bad. Once I started thinking about how I would use the cap the windoors didn't seem as needed. You can open them to pull items out of the front of the bed but you're not going to get rubbermaid containers out (or anything larger). If I worked out of the truck alot I might have gotten them
