I just bought a camper, and instead of altering the Tacoma's existing wiring/alternator/battery, I am considering a simple extension cord attached from the bed outlet to the camper's shore power (30A) connection in order to charge the camper batteries.

    Thoughts? Pros/Cons? Thanks! - Jason

    Ha, no. It's only a 3.5 amp outlet @ 400watts.

A small generator or solar, depending on what your desires are, is about your only options I would think

Wouldn't that be converting 12v from the truck to 110v at the outlet then back to 12v for the camper batteries? Seems like a lot of wasted electricity.

If you are just wanting to charge the camper batteries all you should have to do is hook up the trailer wires to the truck. Your 7 pin connector shuld have a hot wire that charges the batteries while you're driving. If you're stationary for a bit just back the truck up and hook up. The truck will have to be running of course but then it would to run the bed outlet also. This isn't the optimal solution but at least doable compared to using the bed outlet. A generator or Solar is still the best solution.
