Wiring is not my thing, yet I'm trying to figure out why the turn signals and brake lights don't work for my trailer wiring. Only the running lights work. It's not the trailer, works fine on another truck. Used a 4 prong tester, and it showed no brake lights or turn signals.

So I've been watching some wiring videos before I started to pull mine apart, and to me, the wiring doesn't look right. Keep in mind, I'm clueless on wiring! I'm just going by the other videos I watched.

I'll try to explain this better with pictures. I'm sure my terminology sucks, so bear with me. I have a Hoppy (Hopkins) wiring harness. On the driver's side taillight, Im confused why there are two red wires, but then they are spliced into one heading out of light.

Also, videos all show putting a ground in that area. I can't find a ground at all. The white wire stays in the harness, but then a red wire is spliced in, then goes to a white wire that runs up to the driver's seat area and up (assuming to fuses).

On the passenger side, there is one green wire that runs to it, just one green wire. But then it is spliced into two wires, and goes into the harness.

If anyone has any ideas why turn signals and brake lights on the trailer wiring is not working, please help. I can upload more pics if necessary. I'm overwhelmed with this wiring hell. Well, hell for me. :annoyed::help:

I think the best thing to do is get that f***ed up wiring out of there and start over. The Hopkins kit is plug and play. It combines the output from your taillights into a two wire system that is compatible with typical four flat trailer wiring. I looked up the instructions online at etrailer. Looks like you just plug into the two taillights and you're done. No tape, no splice.

I think you are right. And to think the previous owner paid someone to put in the trailer wiring. It's a total cluster. Ridiculous.
    Thank you.

I had the exact same experience. After multiple of conversations, I had a guy suggest that I try running a ground to each light. It worked and also still worked on the old truck. After 5 days of frustration, I am smiling again.
