    Hey community,

Wanted to know if anyone has had this problem. I've lost my emissions sticker under my engine hood. Trying to get the truck registered and the DMV is needing that sticker, told me to go to Toyota and ask for the sticker. Went to the dealer and was told they only provide Emission Stickers as far back as 8 years. The guy told me I could go pay for one online but the one they send me might say the truck cannot pass emissions in CA. Has anyone experienced this losing an Emission Sticker when trying to get the truck registered?

Ugh, that's sounds like it could easily be a real pain the ass. Tucson just does the OBD test, they don't even look under hood or do a sniffer.

I don’t know if the sticker you can buy online has what is need for CA Emissions.
But for just over $3.00, it’s worth a try.

I get part# 1129875750 as the one need?
You might check and make sure that’s correct.

If you can't get the sticker, your last option may be. Buy a used hood with the sticker and install it on the vehicle.

Go somewhere else, away from the citiots. Take a drive to scenic Kern County or up to Ventura.

Is the sticker thing a new thing? When I lived in that crap hole they never checked for that sticker. But they sure wouldn't forget to charge me $70, even if my vehicle didn't pass.

It's so nice now hearing, 'your vehicle didn't pass, please come back after you get it fixed' and not get charged anything.

This sounds like a good plan. I’d print it, cut out out crooked, stick it on crooked with Batman bandaids.

Sounds like you found on hell of an anal inspector.... Technically that is part of the visual inspection, but good lord, to fail due to a missing sticker jezus.

Here’s the thing. If you ask 5 different DMV bureaucrats, you will likely get 5 different answers. I have had lots of go arounds over different matters and have come out ahead by simply knowing the vehicle code section that applies to whatever I am doing. The DMV does not make rules or structure fees, that is the purview of the legislature. If you know what you are doing you can keep the DMV somewhat honest.
Are you registering a vehicle not originally sold in CA? Basically, there are two types of vehicles sold originally in the US. CA compliant and 49 state vehicles. You can register either, but with a truck you will need a weight cert. I don’t think this sticker is a big thing. I would look up the applicable section in the CA Vehicle code and go from there. Neither theDMV nor the smog guys make the rules, they follow CA law as written in the statutes.
The last time I registered a 49 state vehicle, they took all they needed to know from the VIN which the smog guy’s computer pulled from the vehicle’s computer. Aside from the smog test, all I needed was the weight cert. and a check to the DMV.
Look at the applicable DMV form and the VC, Get it all ready and get it registered. If the smog guy says there has to be a sticker, ask him what for and where you can read the applicable law. This could be an SCAQMD issue, so ask why. All the smog guy ever looks at is the engine visual inspection, an exemption sticker if you have any aftermarket equipment on the engine, the catalytic and the number on the cat to ensure it’s a CA compliant cat.

Welcome to our world. This is why I suggest to cut it crooked, put it on crooked with batman stickers. Its a twisted crooked bureaucracy.

Imagine my delight, having my drivers license come up due last year, in the peak of the pandemic. The website says go here to make an appointment, there says to go here complete renewal process online all offices are temporarily closed, there says to go here to make an appointment. I'd wait a couple weeks thinking they'd figure out there is no possible way to renew your license. Same drill, recheck in a couple weeks, same drill, for months. After driving with an expired license for 4 months, it changed to allow me to pay for the renewal.

If you do ever need to go in, expect to wait all day long. Stand in this line to 2 hours for them to look at your paperwork for 3 seconds, another line, wait for hours for your number to be called, stand in another line, oh that guy had to go to lunch, wait some more. Once after 3 hours of line switching I screamed as loud as I could I hate the fking dmv.

I looked at that sticker and I don’t see how it is a make or break issue. Copy it, slap it on, tell the man to test it up. Play the game if need be. Definitely cut it out crooked and use the Batman stickers as a subtle “FU”.
The VIN ought to tell the tech, really the machine, all they need to know. However, like many things here, this is likely contaminated with plenty of dumbassery. Ever go to the zoo and see the monkeys screeching and throwing poo at each other? That’s our legislative process and why things become unnecessarily complicated and expensive. I think the monkeys actually get more done.
