How to get the most out of your supercharger as a daily driver.

I bought my supercharger new 6 months after when I bought my truck back in 1997.

Actually the supercharger I bought in 1998 when they first came available.

I was one of the first buyers as soon as the trd supercharger came available in 1998.

I have put 600,000 plus miles almost on my supercharger since 1998.

In those years I have added mods of different types and wish I had known
all of these mods back in the day.

The stock supercharger puts out 60 more hp or so.
But with some easy mods the power can be raised to 100-120 extra horses.

The supercharger is limited because it can only spin so fast because of its design, so it’s capped in the power it can make unlike the turbo that can spin much fast rpms.

With these mods my rear wheel horses are around 275 or so, I need to do a final Dyno. My last Dyno before the porting of supercharger and throttle body was 250.
Truck is setup as a daily driver, (rear wheel horse power 275)@3200 truck weight is a nice combo.
Supercharger is extremely reliable and durable needing a rebuilt 100k-150k depending on the pulley you run.
Your final numbers will vary depending on altitude and what mods you do including headers.

    1) bore the throttle body by maxbore 125.00
    2) running a 2” smaller a pulley max for boost with the correct fuel management, (pulley =100.00)
    3) run a 170* thermostat 25.00
    4) run a methonal kit. 600.00
    5) port the supercharger intake and exit side. 300.00
    6) gates supercharger belt. 15.00
    7) reset the ECU free
    8) high temp supercharger nose seal 20.00
    9) Headers, have NOT done this yet.
    10) Custom Cat back exhaust 500.00
    11) Elbow mod free
    12) cooler plugs

1a) The throttle body can be bored out by maxbore.
It can be bored out, a little, but all the little upgrades add up.
    More air means more power

2a) First of all the biggest power potential will be by getting a smaller pulley, 2.2, 2.1, 2.
Depending on your altitude your boost can increase 4 pounds plus and up.
Each added pound of boost is about 12-15 horse power. If you port or bore the supercharger or throttle body you will get more horses per Boost but less boost as it less restrictive but means more power.

3a) Running a cooler thermostat 170*will lower the engine temperature and depending on the condition and quality of your radiator you will be running at 175-180* with a better radiator.
By lowering the temperature from the stock 195-200 to 180-185 the supercharger will run noticeably better with the cooler temps.

4a) A methonal kit is a fantastic upgrade with soo many benefits.
Methonal kit will raise the octane to 110 or so for more boost. I’m at 10 pounds with this kit.
Will drop supercharger temps by 100 degrees when spraying. Note that each pound of boost
will raise the intake temperature by 10 degrees from the air being compressed.
Methonal actually will steam clean your intake, valves and throttle body to be carbon free.
Heat soaked supercharger is eliminated on hot days.
This kit does have some maintenance and is not for everyone.
The 7th injector is an option for others for just the fuel upgrade, but does not address heat or other benefits.

5a) Porting the superchargers intake and exit will create a lot more air flow.
The grey supercharger is a two pieces constructed and will benefit the most with being able to Alow more air flow on the top section where it comes apart
The black supercharger is one piece and can not be taked apart but still can be ported, but not to the same amount.
Porting the supercharger like boring the throttle body will allow more air, less restrictive air flow.

6a) The OEM TRD supercharger belt or Toyota belt is of less quality then the Gates supercharger belt.
Gates belt will normally last 75,000 miles and will wear down before it actually breaks.
The TRD or Toyota belt will snap in two when it goes and some have only lasted 20k miles for me.

7a) one thing people don’t do is reset the ECU when the supercharger is installed.
It’s a good thing to do and if you pull the ECU fuse or disconnect the battery make sure
you do it for a good 15 minutes to make sure you clear the ram of the ECU.

8a) high temp Viton seal is rated at -40 to 400* F and 20,554 rpm, good upgrade if you are running a smaller pulley.

9a) Headers will always help airflow and power.
This is something I want to do but I have the EGR and there is so little room with all the hoses and tubes.
I just have not attempted it.

10a) I added a cat back exhaust and a free flowing muffler.

11a) Elbow mod helps the air being less restrictive instead of having to be pulled though the
    fender air Tube.

    12a). Denso 5310 IK22 Iridium Power Plug,
Cooler plugs will help reduce ping issues

If you have some mods that you have done to your supercharger, please add them.

Looks good. Have you ever put your truck on a dyno?

My current setup is 5vz with trd headers, full exhaust, AEM dry filter, black supercharger with 2.2" pulley, AEM FIC6, supra injectors and walbro 190 fuel pump.

Ive never dynoed it but it would be interesting to see some numbers. I think Id be real surprised if we where seeing 275hp.

A 2.2” pulley I believe will NOT get you close to 275hp at the wheel. A good tune wil definitely help tho.
Yes, my last Dyno rear wheel was around 250hp, porting supercharger and throttle body I can feel a big difference, So I’m close or at 275 with. 2” pulley.

2” pulley will make a huge difference too.

Headers are good, but I'd bet you have a ton more power on the table before your outflowing the stockers. When are you going to get a computer to tune on

If I knew someone to do it I would consider it. That’s not my area to know how unfortunately

I know an amazing shop with a very successful tuner who would be more than happy to do the install and give you the best tune you could hope for. Look up PFI Speed, give them a call and ask for Brent or Jaime. They're in your area of CO. They have a pretty neat YouTube channel too showing how they tune and how much power can really just be there for the taking.
