im halfass throwing the idea around of putting the trd s/c on my truck, a person i know has one, used ofcourse with around 20k on it. he sold his truck and decided to go back factory for some reason:confused: anyways the engine seems healthy, no blow by or bad rings that i know about, doesnt use hardly any oil, 123k on the odo. am i right in the general estimate that they usually produce around 35- 45 hp, im assuming low boost( around 6 to 8 psi)..does it use the factory fuel injectors, pump, afm etc?

No you're wrong on the numbers. They are all over the internet. The supercharger and fit kit includes different injectors, spark plugs, ECU tuning. The factory fuel pump is used but a bigger fuel pump is advised by many.

If you're thinking of buying a used supercharger you damn well better do your research and make sure you're getting all of the correct accessories that are normally included.

The supercharger increases the Tacoma's power output to 304 hp (227 kW) from the original 236 hp (176 kW), and the torque output to 334 lb·ft (453 N·m).

The problem with used kits is that they do not usually come with most of the odds and ends you need to install the S/C properly so it doesn't do any damage to your engine. Most guys say it's very difficult to locate the TRD injectors and some other odds and ends in the fit kit. If you do buy the S/C used, make sure the fit kit has EVERY part mentioned in the instructions. You'll also need to get Toyota to flash your ECU with the TRD tune once the S/C is installed, so count on that cost as well. Your buddy might even have a TRD tuned ECU available so you don't have to flash yours because there is no way to take the ECU back to stock so he would of had to get a new ECU when he took his truck back to stock.

Oh, and don't worry about fuel pumps and all that. If you want to check that everything is fine get an AFR gauge and then worry about addons later when you start trying to get more boost. That's my opinion anyways.

First thing I'd ask is "Do you need the SC?"
Other wise, all I can see is it being money NOT well spent.
    Especially if it's used.

I'd never put a bully dog on a Tacoma! Or anything else for that matter. There's a reason no one talks about them positively after owning one for a few months. They ruin trucks.

With the amount of money you'll have under the hood in a supercharger you'd have to be pretty dense to use a cheap $200 tuner instead of a true custom tune on something designed for your setup from the get go. Sorry if that sounds harsh but bullydog is bad news.

But i am planning on puttjng the SC in it with headers and y-pipe...already have a cat back from Afe. Should i put a tunner also or the one that comes in the kit is good enaugh?

I found a used one on CL that was missing pieces and parts, paid $1,500 for it and another $400ish for the fit kit. I think I paid another $250 for the missing parts and did the install, I was about $2k in and had a working supercharger and paid $100 for the ecu reflash. I would find a parts diagram to make sure you get all the parts you need.

Forget the Bullydog. Get the URD under drive pulley.
