I am looking to permanently remove the ugly chin spoiler on my TRD Sport Premium but the whistling noise when it's off drives me nuts. I suspect that cheap felt plate they installed there causes that wind noise. Has anyone tried removing it? I'm wondering if installing the TRD skid plate would take care of that problem altogether by removing the felt plate and replacing it with a real skid plate? Anyone installed the skid plate on their Sport? Any fitment issues?

I have a 2024 TRD Sport and have removed the air dam. After a 1,000 mile trip I can say I haven’t heard any whistling or other noises. I also want to get the metal TRD skid plate but as I understand it I will have add the cross member from NYTOP which will give me the two extra bolt holes to mount it.

I thought I read on here that there is an additional bracket on the OR that supports the skid plate and it’s not included on the sport.

I don't do off roading, so would be satisfied with a plastic skid plate like most cars have. The current felt one is going to collect snow and ice in the winter with the little scoops on it.

Are you talking about this? That's gonna make the TRD skip plate a $700 affair. (I'm in the same boat as Jakedawgy; just removed the cowcatcher and have a howling noise from 35 to 55 mph.)

I do not offroad, so the OEM factory plastic skid plates were sufficient for me. I ordered both pieces, one that replaces the felt and another that goes behind it which covers the oil pan. The front skid does mount to a crossmember on the OR that the Sport does not have, but since they are plastic, it was easy enough to just drill a couple of holes in the skid plate and mount. I have been using them this way for two months.

Cost me $200 through the dealer for the set. Since I am a mall crawling Home Depot Hero and don't need the protection of aluminum, I prefer these because removing them are much easier due to being light weight and two pieces.

Thanks Plank! Would you be willing to snap a few pictures showing where you drilled the mounting holes?

I simply laid the felt one over the OR skid and marked. Drilled small holes to make sure they were lining up and then increased the size of the holes until the bolts fit comfortably through. Secured the skid plate by screwing in rear bolts, held it up and made sure the front holes were lining up.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to those two parts on the autoparts.toyota.com website would you? I've been looking for them for the past twenty minutes or so and haven't even come close.

I have an OR and replaced mine with the TRD aluminum. The plastic ones are sitting in my garage.

I wonder if the LC skid plate would bolt up to the 4G. It looks pretty good.

I am interested I've got the SR5 and removed the snow plow. I drive the beaches in Jersey surf fishing and could use something to deflect the sand a little. Let me know how much?

I received my TRD skid plate yesterday. I have ordered the NYTOP crossmember to allow for the front 2 bolts. I looked underneath to see if there was anything else I needed. Looks like I have the holes in the correct places for the back 4 bolts, but there are no bolts. No bolts came with the skid plate. What bolts do I need?
