So I bought a 2021 SR5 about 6 months ago and have been loving every moment of Tacoma ownership. I’ve finally got a bit of free time, so I’m just starting to get into modding since I would like to make my truck feel more personal and a little less factory.

My specific truck came with the TRD Pro wheels already installed, and I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I am not a fan of the red TRD center caps that are on there. They just feel a little flashy for my tastes and I don’t they match the rest of the truck.

one of the first things that I want to do is black out the red on the TRD wheels. I tried researching before posting this but, I was not able to find anything. Does anybody have any experience or suggestions on what would be the best way to approach this?

I personally don't have experience with those rims however I have plasti dipped center caps of my of my rims from a past tacoma as I'm not a fan of chrome. I did about 6 layers of plasti dip it held up for about 3 year then I got rid of the truck but it looked good when i got rid of it. I would assume it lasted quite awhile as its any area that doesn't get messed with much. I think this could be an option if it has a raised or lowered surface thad separates the red from the black areas.
P.S. Black lugs with the pro rims look awesome too, but like i said not a big chrome fan.

I'd think a few coats of black plastidip would work great for that, and if you change your mind later it's easy to remove without any issues

I had decals made for these older PRO wheels. Just took an imprint of the TRD with crayon on wax paper and sized the logo for the decal. Been on for years

They'd look good on my Taco with the red TRD stickers on the rear quarters.

Plasti dip sounds like a good option, but how can I assure that the plasti dipped center cap matches the rest of the rim? these rims seems to have an almost glossy finish on them.

Also, I really like the idea of black lugs. Definitely going to throw those on there too. do you have a recommendation for where to get some?

@SpeySquatch any chance you could give more details on your process or might you have an existing template you could share that could be sent somewhere for more prints?

I notice this every time I look at the truck and would like same fix.

Also it seems to be a plastic insert and wondering if anyone has tried just prying them off

Im sorry I have no file to share. To be honest, they look alright, but they aren’t exact.

If I was to do it again I would use tape and black nail polish to make it perfect, but it would require taking the wheels off ;)

I used a piece of parchment and a crayon to make my template of the size. That should get you started. Measure and make a vinyl decal from a vinyl cutter.

Wish I had a better suggestion for you other than spraying them. This particular TRD wheel is unique in that it has a red circle outlining the center cap as well as the red “TRD” letters in the center of the center cap.

On another note, these center caps are difficult to come by nowadays. They’ve been on back order for quite a while.

I'd remove them, use masking tape to cover everything that isn't red, scuff them up and do a coat of black + real automotive clear. Should last forever. It won't matter if it's an exact match if you don't spray the whole center cap.

I agree, having any color centercap, looks a little silly / clown nose-ish.

You could buy new Toyota ones....since it appears people can put those TRD Pro caps on the Offroad wheels, I assume you could probably get OR caps for the PRO wheels. Maybe someone would even trade.

Anyone confirm this will fit a 16" gloss pro wheel?

yep, it works and it’s very tough stuff, especially if you get a hard acrylic and put clear coat over it. Clean wheel with some alcohol first. I’m comfortable and secure saying that :D.
