TRD PRO Suspension onto SR5

    I was able to pick up a set of Trd Pro shocks the other day, wasn't really in the market but to be honest they kinda just fell into my lap. They are off a 2017 with about 40k, I have already contacted FOX for info on a rebuild. This is what they had to say...

    "Our standard estimate for rebuilding a 2.0 shock is $105.00 (non-reservoir) - $126.00 (reservoir) per shock. This estimate includes a full tear down, cleaning, and inspection of all parts, as well as the installation of new seals, oil, and nitrogen in the shock. Springs would not be included in basic service. If we find that other parts need to be replaced during the rebuilding process, we will contact you for approval before proceeding with any additional work over 100.00."


    Everything there sounds good but before shipping them to FOX I just wanted to double check and be sure I won't have any issues mounting these to a 2020 SR5 Access Cab 4x4 V6? From what I have read on TW all 3rd Gen suspension is interchangeable and these should bolt right up to my SR5. However I am unsure if there are any additional components needed to complete the swap? Any guidance if the Trd Pro UCA, leaf pack, sway bar etc are required would be helpful. It looks like the Trd Pro parking brake cable spacer (PTR61-35201-PK) might be a must have but again not entirely sure.

    Also, what type of lift would these accomplish on a SR5 AC? Lastly, would it be prudent to swap out the needle bearing for the ECGS replacement even though FOX suspension would provide an OEM lift?

    Thanks in advance and I appreciate any advice people have to share.

    Pics of the suspension after I picked them up. The coating on the coils has cracked and chipped away causing some rust, definitely going to replace. Other then that they are dirty but seem to be in good shape.

    You will have zero issue mounting these onto your truck. Send them to Fox, get them overhauled, install and enjoy!

    The front will lift 1" over your stock suspension. The rear will remain the same.

    The Pro comes factory with the needle bearing And have no issues. For me, I installed the bushing for peice of mine and so I didn't have to go back in if issues arouse. That is a personal call...

    Thanks for the info @Speedfreak. Does this mean that TRD PROs are the same height in the rear as the SR5s? Or do they achieve a lift through other means such as leaf packs/blocks? Also, if the front is only being lifted will the factory rake be erased?

    Yes. The Pro's have the same leaf springs as the other models so installing the Pro suspension on the truck will raise the front but shocks won't lift the rear so the ride height won't change.

    Shouldn't be any issues far as I know, it'll be a softer and smoother ride with more nose dive/lift when hard braking/accelerating compared with stock SR5.

    If you're planning to replace the coils anyways you could look into a Wescott or Eibach lift if you are thinking you want another 1"-1.5" of lift, since installing when you are already taking the coilover apart and replacing shocks would save time or labor costs.

    i was reading somewhere that the pro uses a 1/2 block possibly? but read that it might only be the 2022+ that uses it? the trail edition possibly uses the same 1/2 block? There is a brake line spacer that I think you might need to fit the shocks in the rear because of the reservoir PT59535220. Im also looking at putting pro suspension on my 22 off road from a 21 pro and I assumed that the pro uses a 1" block in the rear, but after some research I might be wrong. I looked at the parts list from a factory trd lift kit to reference potential parts needed to swap in the shocks

    It did cross my mind that now would be the time to do any upgrades. I am keen on keeping things OEM but know this can be limiting in terms of lift. The truck is my DD which includes loading the bed up once a week with about 500lbs. Wondering now if I should consider looking for an upgraded leaf pack to help with the load and provide a slight lift. As I mentioned before I am looking to maintain the factory rake and avoid leveling the truck out.

    Since those are 2017-2019 pro suspension, you dont need or want the rear block. The spacer part for the brake line was not needed on my truck, but its also vin locked by the dealer, so it might be hard to get from them.

    Those will bolt right on to your truck, no changes need to be done. They will lift the front 1 inch and nothing in the rear, but the truck will sit level (non-pro trucks have a 1 inch higher rear than front)

    While you dont need the needle bearings for this suspension, I recommend doing it while you are there anyways. I didnt need the bearings until I put in the eibach pro lift springs, but the sound was instant when I put in the springs so that leads me to believe the bearing was shot right away.

    If you want to lift the truck in the future, look at eibachs trd pro lift kit. It is front springs and a rear blocks. Lifts the trd pro about 1.5 inches

    I think the Fox rep gave you bad info on the rebuild price. TRD pro shocks are 2.5" internal bypass shocks in the front, 2.5" piggyback shocks in the back. Prices below don't include shipping

    Also, you might entertain having a local 4x4 shop rebuild them as it will likely be much cheaper & you won't need to pay shipping.

    Lastly, those will fit right up on your SR5. I have a 2022 set on my 2014 TRD OR and they ride great. The 2020+ retune of the Pro shocks really made a big difference

    Curious if anyone has done the sway bar relocation, or upgraded to the pro sway bar with these. Figure it's not necessary?

    Yeah.
    I think the fronts are side-specific to account for the lean/extra weight on the driver's side. Make sure to install the one with more preload on that side.

    That's my understanding as well. The side lean is fairly visible on the SR5 I drive for work but my personal Pro sat perfectly even from Day 1.

    Here is my pro suspension. You can see the shock on the right has more preload on the spring(that is the driver side shock). The lower mount is raised compared to the other side.

    According to Exit Offroad, Access Cabs already have a 1" lift from the factory, so there will be 0" of lift.

    Access cab is 300 lbs lighter than a double cab, thats why they can sit higher.
