I have been seeing grilles and garnishes for a few years now and I will do my best to keep this thread updated with all the relevant information.

    GRILL
    1. All Tacoma models and trims are compatible with the TRD Pro grill, OEM or not.
    2. 2016 -2017 models do not need the TSS Grill garnish. 2018 - 2021 have a radar in the grill that enables dynamic cruise control and emergency breaking (very important safety features) and they will require the "garnish" to operate and protect the radar properly. Some newer models also have front facing cameras and if yours has it, there is still not a bolt on solution for mounting that camera on an aftermarket pro grille. (that I am aware of)
    3. You can find OEM grilles with no garnish for about $400 now a days. Some dealers will require you to have a REAL TRD Pro (or it's VIN;)) to sell you a grill. Replicas will range from about $100-$250 depending on where you buy, but beware, not all replicas are the same as shown on THIS VIDEO. We have come across at least 7 different versions and they don't all look or fit the same. You can find a great one .

    GARNISH
    1. The garnish provides a smooth surface for the radar to see through and prevents any debris from hitting the radar through the grill openings.
    2. Currently Toyota dealers sell the garnish for about $350, the garnish is nothing more than a flat piece of plastic that mimics the grill's honeycomb pattern, so Toyota's prices are just a way to stop us from using the TRD Pro grill.
    3. Ebay / Amazon is flooded with REPLICA garnishes being sold as OEM! THOSE garnishes may or may not work properly there's no real way to tell which ones are good and which ones are not based solely on the generic descriptions you see, TW is a great way to find a good one.
    RADAR RECALL
    1. If you want to install a pro grill it is a good idea to get the recall service done before, you shouldn't have any problem after that.
    2. Those of us with TRD Pro grills installed may have issues with dealers trying to perform the recall required service. Toyota has denied the repair to several customers of mine because of an "aftermarket-grill" some others have had no issues at some better dealers.
    3. One customer of mine had his radar completely de-activated by Toyota because of this. WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION. Now he has to re-install the original grill, bring it back to the dealer and then re install the pro.

So if you are in the market for a garnish... some of the replica garnishes work fine but some are absolute trash. You have to do some research before buying an aftermarket garnish or buy from someone who will take returns. If you have never seen a real OEM garnish you would have a very hard time trying to figure out wether a seller is scamming you or not. Here's some help:

AS OF 1/22/2021 it is basically impossible to find OEM garnishes being sold for less than $250. All new garnishes under $250 are fake (trying to pass as OEM).

Here are some images to show you some of the differences between OEM/non-OEM garnishes:

I DO NOT ENDORSE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT, THIS IS FYI ONLY.
There are a lot of people who have been and continue to use the grill without garnish on their 2018-2019 and have zero issues. Sometimes the grill will cause an error that seems to disappear after a few days. I believe this might be to the sensor or computer "re-calibrating" itself after a few on-off cycles. The garnish also protects the sensor from rocks, not using it can lead to Foreign Object Damage (FOD).

OEM garnishes will always be wrapped in paper:

    --------------------------------------------------------

Replicas come in a variety of boxes and some are no getting the paper wrap too in an attempt to fool you.

    --------------------------------------------------------

    OEM Labels are better made:

OEM has NO plastic film, MOST Replicas have the film, but even if they don't they could be replicas.

    --------------------------------------------------------

The backside is better molded and crisper on OEM, especially obvious in the "TOYOTA" lettering, if there's no toyota lettering, they are not OEM.

Wow, I didn’t realize the garnish got so steep. When I purchased my OEM garnish it cost about $50.

Toyota raised the prices in July, they change pricing very 6 months so we know that at least for the next 5 months OEM garnishes are not likely to be any cheaper than $250

I bought a 100% OEM garnish a month and a half ago for $52 US from toyotaparts4u eBay seller. The proper sensor wire harness was like $25 as well. 2016-2017 Grille which I added the garnish to was $375 US. Daamnn Toyota is up to something obviously.

I think I paid $150 for mine a year ago, is it just artificial scarcity driving the price up? Certainly Toyota doesn’t care about an aftermarket community putting a different grill on...

Solid post. I just checked and indeed it looks like the legitimate $49 Ebay OEM Garnishes are no longer available. I was able to buy an OEM grille an extended harness and the garnish for $270 total last month.

They actually do care. The more trucks around that have the grill, the less “exclusive” the 2020 TRD pro will appear to buyers.

OP indicated a few days ago you still had several of the OEM available.....Is that still the case?

EXACTLY, like I said, its ok to use replicas but its not ok to sell and price replicas as OEM. Of course now that Toyota sells its garnishes for astronomical prices 50 for a fake doesn't sound that bad.

I do, unfortunately I cannot get any more for a good price so the ones I still have I am only selling bundled with my TRD Pro grilles.

I got my grille and garnish from the OP. Arrived in perfect condition and is a quality product. I purchased it with the OEM garnish pre-installed and black Letters ( ). Works perfectly on my 2019 TRD Off-Road with TSS.

BTW, I priced the OEM garnish a couple of weeks ago at my Toyota dealer and even the dealer was shocked that the price had risen to about $400 JUST FOR THE GARNISH. I guess Toyota doesn't like the fact that a TRD Off Road truck looks like a TRD-PRO truck with a few easy mods (grille, wheels, etc.)?
