Came across these foxes with 25k miles on them. Does that rust worry you guys? Also if i buy them should i send them to fox first to get rebuilt? I need opinions. Would be replacing stock sr5 suspension, thank you

IMO there is next to no reason to buy TRD Pro Fox shocks. They are just inferior to non-OE Fox shocks. I'd look for a set of actual Fox's.

But no, that looks like surface rust and it wouldn't bother me. They are probably due for a rebuild, though.

Really? I heard good things about the pro suspension; that they’re a better ride then the hitachi’s. Are you saying it’d be more worth it to just get the stage 1 fox kit instead?

They are "real" Fox in that they're made by Fox and manufactured for the TRD but they don't look or function anything like the aftermarket Fox setups you would buy for a Tacoma.

They are 2.0 IFP's, non-tunable. You can buy 2.5 tunable Fox shocks on the second hand market for not a whole lot more and they'll perform a whole lot better. Tacoma Fox 2.5 RR is your search term.

I have a pro with the Fox suspension and it’s definitely a nice ride if all you plan to do is mild off roading and mostly street driving. I had an off-road before my pro and i found the pro suspension to be way nicer in terms of street driving. Depending on the price of the the used set and the cost to rebuild, you might be better off just buying something new. They are fine for what they are, but when mine are do for a rebuild I am just going to swap to a whole different set up.

It's an upgrade over stock -- just to be super clear. I just don't think it's worth a "buy some rusted up 25k mile used" upgrade. If you're going to go the TRD Fox route, I'd be looking to buy someones brand new take offs. Folks buy a TRD Pro or a TRD OR with a port installed lift kit and immediately upgrade them all the time.

People post them occasionally in Buy/Sell: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/3rd-gen-tacoma-parts-marketplace-2016-2023.202/

But I think the Fox stage 1 setup is going to be substantially better if you can find it in your budget.

Yes what they are saying is correct, Pro suspension is a nice upgrade over stock. However for the same (or less) money you can get Fox or King suspension with external resorvoirs (vs IFP=internal floating piston which these are) and have better stability results. Theae are also hard to have rebuilt by anyone other than Fox.

The only point in the TRD Pro suspension is on a pro-if keeping it 100% stock for the sake of resale value is the goal.

Or perhaps scooping up a set of new takeoffs that do not need a reubuild (these surely will).

I would pass on these-but to answer the question-its just surface rust.

I will say, the oe foxes are already tuned from the factory. That’s tuning at stock weight, and compression/rebound.

I don’t think they are that bad, depending on the price. You’re not going to find too many internal bypass shocks as “inferior.”
