I just bought a slightly used 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport. How can I ensure the filter is TRD? Also, should everything under the hood say TRD including the oil cap and air intake box? Or are those parts special orders? How can I ensure nothing was switched at the dealer for cheaper stock parts?

A lot of stuff, just ask and I'd be happy to tell you. Or we could wheeling/camping
Everything you are referring to is aftermarket.

If it says TRD on it, its most likely not cheaper then the stock part.

TRD trucks come with the cheaper stock parts.

You have to purchase the TRD special parts separate.

These are "TRD" aftermarket parts. The TRD parts are labeled "TRD"

This is a "stock" PRO part that you can order from Toyota and change out your "TRD" grill for a "PRO" grill.
Sounds like you are not comfortable with the dealer you bought your truck from.
Did you ask the question about why did the original owner get rid of such a nice truck so quickly?? I'd be wondering that enough to ask. But take answer with grain of salt since dealerships lie all the time.

Ok thanks everyone, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Didn't understand why these same TRD parts were available on base model Tacomas, without actually upgrading to a TRD. As for the trucks history, car fax said commercial used. Dealer said it was traded back in 3 months later. The man needed a Toyota Sienna van instead for his business.

Oye..... well Toyota and other aftermarket companies make a shit ton of bolt on replacement parts.

It gets confusing cause some are OEM parts on a TRD truck and others are "labeled" TRD and are not OEM parts. It's all good makes it so we can customize our trucks in the fashion we deserve!
