TRD Lift Package Kit. What Ride Height Should I Go With?

Hope I am not regurgitating too much of other threads. I have spent quite a bit of time searching and haven’t been able to find all this info in one spot.

I have a 2023 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 Double Cab 6M SB TRD Sport Premium sitting at the dealer, waiting to install the TRD Lift Package Kit and TRD Pro wheels with 265/70R17 Michelin Defender LTX M/S mounted on them. I will be putting a LEER 100XR on it, and usually carry at least 100 lbs of bed mat, tools, etc.

I like the factory rake and hate the slightest indication the front end is higher than the back. I was able to measure the new truck and it’s currently 1 1/4” higher in the back, measured from the centre of the rims to the underside of the fender flares. The front shocks on the lift kit have at least three possible ride height settings. I am considering 1.55”, not the full 2”. That will leave me with about 3/4” of rake after the lift kit is installed (1.25” current - 1.55 front lift + 1” back lift), but before any load is added.

Has anybody gone through this with a canopy or bed accessory install? I would like to get the full 2” in the front, but I’m concerned I’ll end up with a squatting truck. And if I understand the installation, going back and changing the ride height setting on the front shocks after the initial install might mean recalibrating cameras/sensors and rechecking alignment.

Lastly - I am in Canada. Does anyone know if the fog lights have to be removed as part of the TRD Lift Kit installation, as they are in the US? I definitely want them. It seems like silly liability; I understand they might be shining in oncoming drivers’ eyes after the truck is levelled, but adding a canopy to a truck with stock suspension could result in exactly the same angle of light, or worse.

Here's a couple of pics referring to ride height. The second is from the Lift Kit installation instructions.

    Thanks in advance.

It specifically says not to disable fogs in the Canada instructions.

I'd say instead of the block do an add-a-leaf to gain the 1.5" in the rear and lose a bit with sag and the leer cap.

    https://www.iconvehicledynamics.com...coma-multi-rate-rxt-leaf-pack-w--add-in-leaf/

Many caps cause sag and a simple extra spring(s) makes the factory springs last a little longer for little extra money. The 1" block with the TRD pack wont help with this.

Also, looks like you tow, skip the block. AAL or leaf pack is the best choice.

This basically leads to the next point, just do a 5100 lift with an add-a-leaf, its tried and true, costs less and gives more choices for rear lift.

Last point, if you do TRD, they have to install it on the second clip to match the calibration numbers, the shop may allow you to do 1st clip, but by the book they shouldnt.

    Great info - thanks.

Funny thing about factory calibration - it only lasts until the truck is loaded. I know they have to start somewhere and then using the truck is the owner's responsibility.

I'm getting the same lift from the dealer. I liked your idea for the TRD pro rims 17" but the dealer I was going to order from said it won't fit my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport Crew Cab 4 x 4. Or will they fit after the lift has been done. I'm going to talk to my dealer tomorrow. Just trying to get some information before hand. Thanks

The trd kit won’t populate for the long box auto double cab so many dealers are not installing them, because it’s not technically correct it doesn’t apply for the standard warranty from Toyota.

Are you talking about the lift or the 4Runner TRD wheels? the PRE-2021 TRD 4Runner wheels will fit PTR2035110BK.

The new TRD 4Runner wheels, PTR56-89210-F2, will not fit without modifying the rear hub flange, boring out the rim, or using 1/4" wheel spacers.

I’ll add to this with 1 simple addition regarding the rear, definitely get Aal to combat the canopy sag (it will sag without). But Then also get sumosprings bump stop- not exactly a bump stop maybe more of a progressive towing/load helper. It will prolong the stock leaf pack with the aal even longer (imo) w/out losing much of the factory rake when loaded.
