So am I missing something or is it normal for dealerships to charge 1200-1800 to install the lift kit?

I accidentally let out a what the fuck when I was told 1800 dollars for installation

Don’t mind doing it myself just wanted to see how much it would be for them to do it

For those that had it installed at the dealer did you pay similar?

I believe that's pretty accurate from what I remember when they first began offering it.

Plus, if they do it, there is a warranty. They will have to remove your dog lights though

Install time is listed by Toyota as 5 hours. Removal of the fog lights is based on state law, although I've heard that some dealers are sticklers about it and some will let it go.

I don’t even have fog lights I just wanted the lift and grille but that’s still just insane to me especially if they have the install time listed as 5 hours

Why are you set on this lift? You can get a much better lift for the same price.
Any parts sold by the parts department only comes with a 12/12 warranty...even if your truck is brand new, the suspension will no longer have the 36/36 warranty, only the 12/12.

Well I was trying to keep the warranty in mind as well as get an oem pro grille with the black letters

Do you have a better suggestion than dishing out almost 3500 dollars?

I got my lift from Ironman (36mo/unl mile warranty) and installed myself. So for under $2k I was able to get a coilover front and leaf pack rear lift and nice shocks.

If you aren't comfortable installing yourself, get on your regional page and see who wants to have a lift install party for the price of a few pizzas and a 30-rack.

As for the grille, the knock offs are just as good if not better for much less. Look around and search on here. You can see links to them everywhere. I can't stand how common they are so I can't help you on the looks. But check out the Nightshade grill if you want to stand out a little bit but not be so mainstream.

That’s actually not a bad idea. Thanks for the advice what size lift did you go with?

Still better than them waiving the warranty all together

Every aftermarket suspension manufacturer I’ve seen carry’s at least a 1 year warranty if not 3-5 years. So nothing is getting waved.

What about the rest of the truck? (I'm not being facetious, I genuinely don't know)

My garage charged me $500 w/alignment to install. 2" Bilstein 5100's and 1" rear block. Basically the same thing as the TRD lift.

Changing the suspension doesn’t void the warranty on anything of the truck. Dealers might try to say it will but if something fails during the warranty period, it is their responsibility to prove to you that the modifications you did caused the failure.

My dealer did it for $320.
They originally quoted me 9 hours labor at $50 an hour - which is $450 (you get a discount on labor if you buy the parts there).
But then the actual invoice ended up being 10 hours at $32 an hour.

    I wasn't gonna complain.
The parts were just straight set at $1750.

From some of the stories I've heard, they've been quick to blame it and that was that. But, that being said, I can't say I've been in that position so I don't have any first hand experience

I have been in that position. Rear brake backing plate bent causing the brake shoe to horseshoe and lock up the rear end. Dealer first said the 2021 tacomas didn’t come with drum brakes and I’m liable because I changed the disk to drum brakes. Then they said whoever installed my lift caused the damage when the brakes were disassembled. In the end, they fixed the truck after not being able to prove the lift caused the damage and it is good to go now. You just need to educate yourself on the warranty and what it says. Know what you are covered on and what you aren’t.
