First of all, why do some TRD grills have the round Toyota symbol and others have the words spelled out? Is it a different year? Package? Or maybe just the aftermarket ones? Secondly, is there a particular after market TRD grill that everyone favors? Please post links if possible. Thanks in advance.

I’m not an expert on Tacoma grills, but I think the grill with the Toyota lettering is the TRD Pro grill and the one with the Toyota icon is the regular grill that I have on my 2020 OR and the one I had on my 2016 SR5.

You might post pics of the grills you are referring to.

After a closer look there are other differences as well.

The first one looks like the grill that comes on the TRD Pro and the second looks like the regular grill that comes on everything else. Not sure it the SR has a different grill as I rarely see one in my area.

Is the grill on your truck not the same as the 2nd one?

The Pro grille has the Toyota lettering. In 2024 the Trailhunter will also have the Toyota lettering too. Every other Tacoma trim comes with the oval emblem. At least with the 3rd Gens you can swap the grille with whichever one you like.

A Pro grille (with the Toyota lettering) was one of my first mods because my 2016 came with a grille which had too much chrome for my liking (see the picture in the link below).

Top is a 17 pro grille. I’ve had mine since September 2016.

Not 18-19 that came with TSS sensor.
20-23 came with tss sensor and front camera.

bottom is a 2020-2023 sport / off road grille with tss logo sensor

The default mod for most Tacoma owners seems to be the grill swap. It's the most common mod I see. I was going to do it too but thought a TEQ vinyl covering for the symbol might be a bit more original.20230713_194723.jpg

The Pro grill adds 6.9HP and brings all the boys to the yard.

In all seriousness, most guys swap for the Pro grill simply for aesthetics. My '18 came with a dog ugly chrome chicken wire grill. I legitimately swapped it the day after driving it off the lot. I also painted my letters white to make them pop a little more.

Among other things, also replaced our TRD OR grill with an OE Trail Edition grill right after we bought it. (Still have the OE grill and headlights and fog lights and, and... if anyone's looking. ;) )

The Heritage Grill originally came stock on the Pro models only.

When I bought my Off Road, I had it thrown in the deal, as I couldn't stand the idea of a chrome Grill on an Off Road vehicle. (Not sure what Toyota was thinking there).
