Can anyone who has this shift knob tell me if it's taller overall vs the stock shift knob? I'm looking for a larger shift knob that also sits slightly higher. I see the TRD knob has a jam nut so can you set it where it's taller vs stock?

    @Undertow I used your photo.

I have it. Any height difference is negligible. If you want something noticeably taller you’ll need a different one.

I was hoping for maybe just a 1/2 inch taller or 1 inch at the most. I like the TRD knob so I was just wondering if that's possible to adjust at all.

you can go any height you want. just get work fitting a coupling nut and a threaded rod. I'm having a new knob custom made with 5" height. while i wait I'm using this Hurst knob on an extension. under the temporary leather wrap there's a coupling nut, a threaded rod i cut to length, and a couple locking nuts to keep it tight.

That's good problem solving right there! I'd like to leave the stick uncovered so it might not be the best option for me. Great idea, tho.

@St.Germain Just re-read your post. Who is making your custom shift knob?

Ahh yes, I've seen his work. Looks awesome. I'm looking for a shift knob that isn't made to connect to the shift boot (exposed stick). I didn't see any versions from him like this.

    You rang?

    Painted 2.jpg

@7r41lbr34k3r 's all delrin ball and painted shift boot collar. I also painted the mating part and installed a redlinegoods.com shift boot.

The ball was on there about 9mo at the time? It looks even smoother and better as time goes on.

If you're really looking there, I have an @MESO LSP7 and @rrentrop 's stickers to cover the shitty chrome. :D

What made you change the shift boot? And did you paint the stock chrome boot retainer in the first pic?

    Edit: fixed post

At one point, it was squeaking during shifts. Some vinyl protectant fixed that, but I just didn't like the look and weird creases of the vinyl. When (if) the seats wear, I plan on grabbing Katskins. This is our first cloth vehicle in 25yrs. The cloth isn't bad at all, but I like dead cow.

Yes. The retainer is painted in both pics.

The boot was squeaking? Weird. I also haven't owned a cloth vehicle since I don't know when...but my cloth heated seats warm up fast! I don't mind the cloth so far. Katskinz are always in the back of my mind, tho

@tonered Any idea how much that delrin ball weighs and does it get very cold?

Yep. With those big ass creases, the boot would rub against itself. Not a big deal, but it helped kick me over the edge on the leather boot.

This is also our first vehicle in a long time without heated seats. For the weather here, I don't really miss them. They were killer in the convertible that we had though.

The Katskinz will be a nice little gift sometime after the Taco is paid for.

The ball weighs 160g. Super light weight which I like for feeling the shifts.
