    Hi there,

We will be travelling around the US, and we have a 6” suspension lift without any other mods.

We are from Canada where this is legal.

I am just wondering if anyone has experience with travelling the states in a lifted truck. Are we exempt from lift laws in each state because we reside in Canada where it is legal? Will we be pulled over because of the suspension lift? Will there be any issue crossing the border?

    many thanks!

Share a pic to help out.

Some states measure headlight distance to ground, some enforce mud flap laws. Most are lenient if you're out of town and not an asshole.

I'd probably make sure I have rear mud flaps before I did any large trip just incase there's a cop having a bad day.

Since the vehicle is street legal in Canada, you shouldn’t have significant issues in the US. Only thing I could think of would be “Carolina Squat” being outlawed in some southern states, but you didn’t mention a squat.

Vehicles are known to get pulled over for lacking a front license plate, even if their home state allows it. If you didn’t have a front plate, LEOs could pull you over for that “infraction”

But in the states there are plenty of vehicles less suited to be on the road. Although legally that is not a get out of jail free card.

I've been in all but 6 of the lower 48 states, most of them with a mild lift and all of them with no tag on the front or mudflap. They are not issued for the front in most states and they might pull you over but can't write a citation if you're legal at home. I'm aware of only one state (Montana) where mudflaps are required. Never had an issue, but I don't have a 6" lift.

Technically you could have an issue in some states with that much lift. There are laws (mostly unenforced) about how high the bumper can be off the ground and a 6" lift is technically a violation. But I see plenty of US trucks lifted that much and have never heard of anyone being cited for it.

The only time I've known of it being an issue is if you're in an accident and are sued for damages. With the bumper that high it will go into the passenger compartment of another vehicle and not hit the other cars bumper. Even if the other person caused the accident, your bumper will cause more injuries to passengers in the other car.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Paper work documenting your insurance is valid in the USA .

The only thing I would consider is the height of the bumpers from the road.

The mud flaps might be another point.

Tires covered by fender flares so they are not sticking out past the body.

You might be completed ignored better be safe then sorry.
