I have a 2016trd sport access cab with the locking 3pc tonneau cover. I own an Adirondack guideboat wood canoe and am looking for a solution of how to transport it. Id prefer to limit extending it too far off the body so im really looking for a set of racks/stan tions that I can use with the bed cover which will enable me to mount the canoe on top of the truck. Any ideas?

How long is the canoe - don't you mean you want to mount it to the truck bed not the roof and still be able to access the bed with your cover on??

I would look towards yakima or thule and possibly get their set up. They would mount to the cab and might might be able to have enough spread to get two cross bars on cab. Either way may still need and want to put a load bar that affixs in the receiver hitch to help support it in the rear. I had a double cab and used a yakima rack to carry a canoe on the roof of the truck. Another possibility is just one x-bar on the cab and then the load carrier in the hitch. Good luck.

Why not just use a roof rack? The Toyota factory rack is fairly cheap and will support a canoe. It also has folding crossbars, so less wind noise!

I am saving for a PrinSu or may build something similar, they're also a great option if you want something more substantial.

Canoes tend to be longer and heavier than a kayak, and with an access cab there is less roof real estate to utilize.

So as I understand it OP is looking for 1 crossbar on the cab and a bed rack/bar setup that can be fitted AND still utilize the factory tri-fold? Interesting and I'm not sure there is an option for the bed that meets that requirement....

Subbing for an option - I have a roof rack setup (Rhino Rack I did a write up on) on my DC, but would be interested in something like this in addition to, for transporting larger/heavier items along with retaining factory trifold.

Assuming OP looking for something like this that is compatible with trifold installed (which this is not):

OP has an Access Cab, and a trailer isn't a viable option for a lot of people (parking, storage, transport, or also hauling a camp trailer at the same time).

@KB Voodoo offers a set up that let's you use a bed rack with the tonneau in place.

You could go the complicated route. Via ALLPRO OFFROAD bed rack with CVT Mt. Shasta. Least that's what I did.20170415_172334.jpg

Rhino rack T-loader and roof racks, T-loader tilts down so you don't have to lift so high. Very easy to load by myself, and I'm 62. I called them and got a better price in person than on line. You can also only get one roof rack bar, I got both to have more options. http://www.autoanything.com/roof-racks/69A6612A0A0.aspx

I know this thread is notIMG_20170418_112711_799.jpg about Canoes themselves, but I picked this Beauty up today and I gotta show it off. Craigslist $500.00!

This is the exact set up I was thinking of for you. However you might be able to get away with just ONE cross bar on the cab of the roof I would think. Other problem you run into with a canoe is the curve of them and you'll need the front obviously to hang over the windshield a little bit. I did the set up above minus the hitch support for an old town fiberglass 10' canoe and it worked great.

What kind of rack is this? I would like something similar to this for transporting 2 kayaks, but would like it to be easily removed because I use my bed often for picking up loads of mulch and dirt that are loaded with a bucket...

@synaps3 the weight capacity on the factory roof rack is only like 70 lbs. I'm guessing his canoe weighs more than that... even if he had the roof space.
