Anybody have a safe way to do this? They are supposed to be transported upright. I was thinking of strapping it to a dolly and then strapping that to the bed tie downs.

Yes, they are very easy to just slide in and out valve towards tailgate. I strongly recommend strapping them down or wedging stuff in between them so that they don't bang against each other.

I wouldn't put the valve towards the gate, if it does break off look where that missile is pointed.

I have no idea why I said tailgate. I've never put the valve towards the tailgate. I meant to say slide them in valve first. It's easier to lift from the bottom and use the tailgate as a teeter totter to take some weight off.

Guess I'm of the different crowd, I'd place the valves to the back, if upright isn't an option. Going down the road at say 40-60mph, and a sudden stop, as in a collision, I want the strongest part of the tank at the bed front. Strap the you know what out of it as well, so it stays in place.

All the tanks I get have a cap they are industrial tanks so not too much of a concern of the valve. They are easier to load valve first.

Thanks for the ideas. I was planning on getting the tank at the local tractor supply company so I will see if they will fill them if I don't transport it upright, the local ACE said they will fill them but they have to be transported upright. The tank I am looking at doesn't have a cap but a collar like the smaller grill tanks.

As stated valve to the Cabin, passenger side. I have a couple 4x4s cut at various lengths depending on how many tanks I need, that way I can wedge them against the opposite side of the bed so they don't roll.
