I have a 2015 Tacoma double cab trd off-road with the 4L V6 and auto tranny. The transmission just started to act weird after I had an oil change done. The transmission downshifts slowly like if I'm slowing down to make a turn and then push the gas pedal to speed up on a road it'll jerk really hard like it's downshifting and then when I get on a road that's 45 or 55 the transmission won't shift into 5th gear or so it feels because it'll be at 3K rpm and if I let go of the throttle pedal the rpm will go down to 15-1800 rpm but is sluggish but if I even slightly touch the throttle it'll jump straight to 3K rpm. I want to avoid the speakership if possible. The truth has 35K miles on it and has a 2inch lift with 285s and a tube front bumper. I need help as this is my only vehicle and I need it to get me from home to the military base I work on which is 20 miles away on 45-55mph roads and don't wanna grenade my tranny or put unnecessary wear from rpm on my engine.

You stated that this starts after you had the oil changed. I wonder if they accidentally drained your transmission fluid. It happens way more than you would think with this generation. Start with having the transmission fluid checked.

a long shot but I wonder if whoever changed your oil mistakenly removed the drain plug on the transmission first, thinking it was the oil pan, and quickly put it back in after realizing there was red fluid draining out. Low trans fluid can cause all kind of weird issues in our trucks. I'm willing to bet if they did that then they probably would not know how to put trans fluid back in, let alone the proper procedure for putting it in.

    Good luck

Check your oil level (engine oil). If they drained trans fluid instead of engine they may have super overfill ed the motor oil

That's a possibility I didn't think about. I just hope it didn't compromise the integrity of the tranny

Curious, why wouldn't you want to go to the dealership? You have a year old truck, under warranty, with an expensive, major component experiencing issues?

I'd agree on the trans fluid check, hopefully it wasn't you who changed the oil. ;)

I didn't wanna go to the dealership because I have "lift kit, tires and other components and they would find a way to say they couldn't cover it.

I checked the tranny fluid and it was almost empty. About a quart came out and there was about 12 quarts of oil in my engine as well. 5 quarts of ATF and 5.5 quarts of more oil later and it is running night and days difference now. First and last time I ever take my truck to someone else for an oil change.

when I take my truck to the dealer they love the lift and big tires.... they worked with me when I had an extended warranty issue so that the lift/tires would not be problem.... anyway I guess it depends on the dealer.

as for the the transmission fluid, how did you know how much to put in? it is an interesting technique to check your fluid level in the transmission but a useful one. If you did not do the procedure (get it up to temp then check) you should do it. If you want to check the level search for for it this site and you will find tons of articles on it.

Yeah I took my truck to get a headlight replaced due to moisture and the dealer said they couldn't because I had a bull bar attached and I had an abs problem and wouldn't touch it because of the lift so that's why I don't like to go there anymore

I looked up the procedure online and looked in the owners manual to see how much is suppose to be in there and then looked up how to check it and what temperature to check and then to check via drain plug.

I would still be making a phone call and have a conversation with the manager/owner....completely unacceptable!

But, if your cool with the fact that they may have severely compromised the reliability and longevity of your truck, then by all means, do nothing...
