Hi guys. I have a problem with the clunk on my transmission from my trd off road that I just picked up a week ago. When I reverse from my driveway every morning and put in D and then accelerate the transmission slips and then picks up. It only happens when the truck is cold. The question is this normal ? Has anyone with the same issue been able to fix it or taking to the dealer ? Please let me know any input would be appreciate it

I have this issue as well.

Tonight I backed out of my driveway put it in D and accelerated. The trucked moved forward and then the RPM's briefly went up a little but with no increase in speed. It up shifted to another gear and did the same thing again. It does feel like a transmission slip.

The vehicle was not fully cold. It was near the quarter line on the temp gauge.
I do have the tow package.

I have the Tow package as well. It is really weird, it only does it when the truck is on an incline and when it is cold, when the truck is leveled or warm it works perfect. Any other input? could it be the AT fluid ?

All we can do is continue to log a complain ticket at Toyota customer care... maybe Toyota will have some balls and instruct dealers to address it.

I can't believe there are so many people having the same issue with the AT and no one has been able to fix this, has anyone that top the AT fluid seen any improvements?

Im planning to take the truck today to the dealer and see what they say, but this is definitely annoying. Are you experiencing the same issue? have you taken the truck to the dealer?

I created a POLL for you
You guys need to cast your vote at the link below when you find out the fluid was low or just simply keep driving the truck with a low fluid condition . Eventually something inside the transmission is going to fail . Everything inside your transmission is new , nice and tight and within specification .Driving with low fluid is going to sneak up on you and it usually happens after your warrantee runs out . How do we know this ? Same thing happened to the 2nd gen
Thats rite Rebecca , The low fluid condition started with the 2nd gen Tacoma,s and it took us a long time to figure out why .
Take 2 seconds out of your time to show others how serious the issue is .
Jan 14 / 2016 , I count 12 members just within this post that have the low fluid issue . There are a bunch of posts on the same problem

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...be-low-on-fluid-directly-from-factory.405642/

I DONT OWN A 3RD GEN . I AM DOING THIS FOR YOU GUYS -CAST YOUR VOTE PLEASE ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If you have tow package, you find that transmission is a pint low, does not sound like much. Just had my 5k check, asked toyota to check tranny fluid, they found it a pint low, only checked because I asked. Tranny seems to shift a little better. It also help the speedometer neddle from ticking and it matched up with thr digital speed.

My transmission fluid was found to be .5 - 1 quart low. Will see if that stops my slipping issue.

I don't hear a clunk, but I can feel a little bump when I go from R to D when it is cold out. It does not do it all the time. I have a TRD OR with tow package. I just hit 800 miles... I'll have to check the fluid.

My Tacoma is doing the same thing. Took it to the dealership warm- 45 miles away and was told unless they can duplicate the issue, they couldn't check the oil in the transmission under warranty.

Sucks but they are not really being "douchers". Checking the tranny fluid in this truck is probably a pain in the ass, I'm assuming you have to warm it up to a certain temperature, use techstream, and check the fluid at that exact time. Who's going to pay the guy that's doing it? Nobody works for free.

That isn't the case here. This issue screams of low ATF, I've personally experienced it in lots of Toyotas with this transmission. They don't check it at PDI and there's been several cases of people discovering they were about a quart low.

Originally I took it to the dealership about various transmission issues. A few of the issues normally suggest a low fluid condition. They pretty much could not duplicate them, so they left if at that.

I did go back later for some other issues and told them about my transmission slip issue.
See my post #7 for details. Transmission slipping when cold and after reverse

I believe they were going to could not duplicate it again until they mentioned it to the "Field Tech"?
The "Field Tech" found it to be interesting and told them to preform a fluid level check.
That is when they found the fluid to be .5 - 1 quart low.
