Is the full transmission fluid capacity (after a pan being removed and replaced) approx 10.8 qts ?

For Background - Ended up needing my transmission pan replaced by mechanic (I had stripped the inner threads) while attempting drain and refill where I drained 3.5 qts out of pan.

They refilled my transmission (dipstick) with type T-IV fluid (4 qts I provided).

Truck now hesitates at very low speeds, as if trouble engaging into low gears. My level must be low, correct ? as in, when they replaced the transmission pan would they have removed all the fluid from the truck ? Thanks All !

Check the transmission dipstick level and if it’s low, add fluid.

You only get around 1/3 to 1/2 of the total fluid out when removing the pan, the rest stays in the torque converter, valve body, and passages.

4 quarts would seem about right for a pan drop only but certainly wouldn't hurt to pull the dipstick and check it.

I'd say buy 5qt, more is better than having too few.

    Not at all

    Dunno, maybe.

Use the dipstick to check the level. We are fortunate (IMHO) to still have dipsticks.

Thanks all for the info ! Went ahead and added two quarts and shifted through the gears. Will see if this helps the slipping at low speeds.

I know to check dipstick with car up to temp, but all it reads is "hot" and "cold" with no clear levels. Good learning anyway, don't think I will be attempting this job again LOL.

I don’t know who “they” is and the fact you state the truck acted odd immediately after is suspicious.

You state you added quarts. There is no added quarts. An auto trans either has the required level with the required fluid done in accordance with the procedure or it doesn’t.

Follow the instructions and use the dipstick properly. Just dumping in qt bottles is a good way to overfill and create problems.

Hot and cold refer to the temp, vehicle running, on level ground.

My lunchtime Coke says you're now overfilled
