    Hi guys.

I've been searching but cannot find if...

There is a difference with a Tcase from a 4cyl to v6. (guessing not)

If there is a difference with the Tcase if it has a "4wd" button. Electronic?

If there is a difference with the Tcase if you are running a non ADD set up in the front. (manual)

    Thanks

The tcases are definitely different from 4cyl to v6. Totally different transmissions.

T-cases vary from the years. In your truck, the T-case is the same for the 2.7 & 3.4. The auto trans are the same but the bell housings are different, not sure on the manual as I don't have one.

I have an extra T-case I've been trying to give away... it's your if you want it. You will need the OEM adapter which replaces the 2wd tail housing.

    Good luck.

From what I've been able to find out ADD and manual hub J shift T cases are the same. Push button T cases are electronic. I can't tell you what, if any, differences there are between auto and manual transmission, or 4 cyl. and V6 T cases.

V6 case is 23 spline, 4 cylinder is 26 spline on the input shaft. The bolt pattern is the same on both.

There is the j-shift that has your typical 2-hi, 4x4-hi and 4x4-low. Then there is the push button case that has all the same functions, just electronically shifted into 4wd and mechanically shifted into low range. Those were the only two designed cases in Tacoma's.

You can fit an electroically shifted case from a limited or 2001-2002 4Runner that has a center diff in the case that gives you 2-hi, AWD-hi that can be used on dry pavement with no ill effects and 4x4-low that locks in the center diff. There is also a push button to lock the center diff for AWD-hi in wheeling/difficult conditions.

Hello, new member here. Was wondering if having, or not having rear differential lock makes a difference in transfer cases? I have a '01 TRD, and need a transfer case. The wrecking yard has a manual j shifter case, like mine, but it's listed as "no differential lock" i can't imagine it would matter, but wanted to ask the experts!

    Welcome to TacomaWorld
Tcase with rear diff lock has a 4Lo switch which allows diff lock when in 4Lo only. The 4 Lo switch can be modified to allow diff lock in 4 Hi but I don't recommend this unless you are an experienced 4 wheeler and don't care if you grenade the Differential.
Both with/without diff lock Tcases have the 4Lo switch mount hole but with diff lock will have the 4lo Switch.
Without diff lock will have the switch mount with a threaded plug where the switch goes. The plug and switch are interchangeable.

Thanks, the truck already had the gray wire mod when I bought it. So that case will work for me! Thank you so much!!

Better double check anything I tell you though, I've learned not to believe myself all the time so I don't believe everything I think. o_O
