Is there a guide on here for an fj transfer case swap? I’ve seen a lot of threads on it, but no how to (or really what I’m looking for - everything you need to do). I’d like to do the bare minimum to replace the the transfer case and do whatever needs to be done in regards to the ADD and getting everything to work properly.

Basically I would just like to replace electronic transfer case with manual with as few other modifications as necessary.

Edit: would be on an ‘05 4cyl manual regular cab.

If you are considering or have done a FJ case swap why? What do you think you gain? Is it just manual control? Did you or have you considered an Atlas? That FJ case does not give you the option of lower low range gearing. Do you feel that the best option for lower gearing is to do it just with axle gearing?

I actually did a 4x4 swap in my prerunner. The reason I chose the fj tcase is because of durability and reliability as well as not needing to mess with my computer system. The fj tcase is also easy to find for a really good price at salvage yards. I also chose to do the twin stick mod so I can access 2low to get some low gearing with easy turning radius. Yes I personally think the easiest way to change gearing is to change it in the diffs.

@Dex__43 Yeah and thanks for the response. The reason I’m looking into the swap is that I’m considering buying a second gen (05) and the transfer case is rough. Durability of the 4wd system is the only reason I’m considering a swap. The parts that have failed on the truck I’m looking at are the actuators.

I've read a few of these threads and I like the idea it, if for nothing else, just to have a manual lever for shifting. ( like a truck should have...) My own Taco is unique in that it's a 2.7 engine, so it got the A340 t-case, which is what my 3rd Gen 4runner uses, so my immediate thoughts were to look into a multi-mode t-case swap. How cool ( and useful) would it be to have an AWD option available!

I used a differential tube from a 2003-09 gx470 in order to get rid of the front diff actuator

watch all the YouTube vids you can. Even I they're not the exact year and model. This will give you a boader perspective on what you'll be doing. Just do it bro. I was in the same place you were a month ago, but I said Freak It, and started unbolting. If you're doing twin stick, be sure to ha e a way to bend steel, and a welder. All else is downhill from there..
