So I installed my Expedition One Rear Bumper the other day.

The trailer plug in the OEM bumper fits right in the EXP One Bumper nicely.

However it is located further away than stock the the wires won’t reach

Is there any sort of extension one can buy?

Or do I need to extend the wires myself.

Use google, I'd bet there's an extension available somewhere. I relocated my trailer harness, found a plug for it with 1 foot wire extensions with a 4 prong plug on the end.

    Good place to start.

If it's only a few inches, I'd solder in extensions and use shrink tubing that has the glue inside, making it water tight. Time consuming, but it will never fail if done right.

The plug looks custom. Similar 7 pin layout but not quite the same notches.

I just thought someone has run into this issue before.

    Whats "google"???

Pull some plastic harness retainers out and stretch it’ll reach. I thought it could never reach my bumper and after doing that it now fits perfectly.

Very well someone has, and will chime in. If not, I still say add a splice in the middle somewhere to get a custom fit, solder and heat shrink tube it, good to go for years.

Good idea, I haven't spent much time under mine yet, sounds like the way to go.

Yea it’ll give you at least a few inches. Plus with as finicky as these trucks electrical systems are I’ll stretch like a mother f@#!er over cutting and extending anything!

Hmm I'll have to try that too. Installed the SOS Concepts bumper and its like 3 inches short. Was dreading splicing in a whole mess of new wires. Thanks for the idea. Were you able to replace the harness retainers after moving them down the wires or how did you reattach the wires?

I replaced the retainers with zip ties and even that was overkill. There was no reason to, it’s not like it’s going anywhere. Not sure what you mean by “reattach wires”. All I’m referring too is this plastic clips that hold the harness to the frame.

So you disconnected the harness as it runs down the frame towards the front of the truck to get those few inches? I’ll give that a shot.

    Thanks.

How far forward did you have to go to get the length you needed? I pulled them out of their hold downs to the gas tank and didn’t really gain much. Still need another inch or 2.
