I just got a 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport. The manual says there is a trailer break controller adapter to the lower left of the steering wheel, but the picture is not clear.
Does anyone know exactly where the adapter is on the 2022's, or where they are on the 2021's if they have not changed the location?

Left kick panel, there’s only a plug taped to the harness

Have you looked behind the driver kick panel? You’ll have to dig around but you’ll eventually find the correct connector taped to a harness. Bit of a pain to remove the panel but it becomes easier each time you do it.

First time I went looking for that connector I had a hell of a time finding it. Mine was tucked, hiding behind a wire loom, behind that kick panel.

I’ll look there tomorrow and let you know. The amazing owners manual made it look like it was part of the button panel.

thanks for all the help. I appreciate it.

What are you planing on using for a controller?? I am looking at using a knob type to keep a clean factory look.

I like the knob idea, , but it’s a little pricier than I want to go. I’m not sure what brand yet though. I may try that. The more I look at the other styles I think I like the look at that better

I found the plug. They have moved it for the 2022. The photo shows the location on my truck

I think youre referring to the OBD port which is not the trailer brake connection. They most likely didn't move it. Open up that kick panel, it's back there.

I’ll re open the panel but I didn’t see it in there. That’s why I thought the other port was it, but I started realizing I was wrong after I just lucked up the parts I need for the set up.
Thanks for setting me straight. I’ll get this figured out sooner or later hahaha

It's going to be in the back towards the fire wall, on the bottom of a harness. Just an empty, unconnected white connector. Take a pic and I'll draw an arrow if you need.

It's behind the panel, very easy install. I personally have a Tekonsha with the MESO customs replacement panel.

Watch from 1:00 to 1:27. you'll see he has to pull the plug from behind the other wires in the kick panel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndGXtLO2ZTg

Fire the fellow cheap-asses out there, I've been running a Tekonsha Primus IQ for about 5 years now. It has all the features that you need in a brake controller, and none of the frills you don't. Install isn't the prettiest, though.

I went this way because I couldn't get a location the controller from my Jeep Liberty would fit that I wouldn't hit my knee on. It's a good controller.
The wire is way back under the kick panel cover. It's back behind a bundle of wires and not easy to find with out really looking for it good.

I used that for years in my Jeep. It is a good basic one that does everything you need. I just didn't like how it was going to look in the truck and figured I'd bump my knee on it all the time so I let it go to the with the jeep

Redarc, is the cleanest, easiest way to add a brake controller to the 3rd gen, in my opinion. also, no more stepping on the brake to start with the push button start. push the redarc button in, while pushing the start button... viola, no getting in and out, to start the truck. Ski
