    I'd say 60lbs max.

If I had that, I'd use a ratchet strap to double up security.

Well, my 285/17 spare is currently mounted under there and together weigh ~78lbs. Had no issues so far with that.

You may as well just unbolt it, buy one large plastic tank and make a custom bracket to hold it up attached to the frame.

With a budget of $450*3 plus tax and shipping, you can buy a fully custom one piece tank and pay a good welder to fabricate you some heavy duty brackets that won’t fail.

But this is a Good Friday post. It will get more traction in 4 minutes when it turns Friday on the east coast.

Dude... NO. That's insane. Is your spare in the bed or on a swing-out? $450 to carry 18 gallons of water and lose a secure location for the spare sounds counterproductive. If that's your truck in the profile pic - you appear to be well equipped, there are SOOOOOO many better ways to carry a relatively small amount of water. This is a gimmick.

I went with a low profile, slanted tank from ironman 4x4. It's in the bed, against the cab. Using a 12v pump and quick connect for the hose. It wasn't very expensive and it's 13 gallons.

    I think $450 = 3 pack.

I've thought about going this route, but I'm a perfectionist and this might not be my last water tank mod lol. It would probably be more expensive in the end too.

I saw those tanks, but I want to keep the weight as low as possible and the spare tanks were the best solution I could find to fit my needs. I also have a 5ft bed and I'm building out the interior of a camper, so the space savings were a big factor in my decision.

It's actually not a small amount of water for my needs, given ~1gal of drinking water per day for two people, a little more if it's a hot climate. I could probably get away with a week of camping, including cleaning and showering. I've gotten away with a lot less during a 5-day trip. I'll also have a 12v pump and filter with the ability to pull water from a fresh source. And my spare is going on the swing out.

Not too different than a less than full tank of gas. And the weight will also be as low as possible on the truck.

Gasoline is about ~6lbs per gallon vs water ~8lbs per gallon.

Gas tanks have various walls in them to prevent that sloshing

While this is true, I honestly don’t see the “sloshing” water tank as an issue once it’s full. I’m not going to be driving around with it less than full.

Once I get to my destination I don’t usually move til I head back home. So I’d probably empty the tank before I drive off anyways. I currently do this with my RotoPax.

That is a lot of water.

If it were me, I'd just buy one of these and plumb it all up and see if it works with a single 6 gallon tank for now, then decide if you need to upgrade. You have been making it work with your roto packs up till now even on long trips, so just buy 1 of these, put 6 more gallons under the bed with some pumps and stuff, and go from there. Of course bring the rotopax or an extra case of drinking water if you think youll need it on long trips, but for the majority of your weekends youll be set. I highly doubt you drink a gallon a day per person. I would not put a 25 gallon water tank under my truck for the once or twice a year that I am able to camp off grid for 5 days straight, id just plan for those occasional trips. There will be times you want portable, potable water in a jug, or a bottle that you can easily refill versus 25 gallons under the truck. In cold weather pumps and hoses on your truck might freeze, but you can put a roto pack full of water next a fire and thaw it out.

Just a few things to consider.

    13 gallon Ironman 4x4 tank.
    Double strapped w/ 200lb straps.
Straps are ran through an All-Pro bed Molle panel plus through the Camper's Molle panels.
Main 1/4 turn shut-off at bottom outlet of water tank.
Brass couplings and hose clamps throughout.
Water line is braided vinyl and ran through filter, 12v water pump and then into accumulator tank.
Water line is ran to bed stiffener and to 1/4 turn hose bib valve.
Short section of high flex garden hose with adapters/aerators and then a industrial hands-free faucet.

I thought and planned out my setup for a long time... even have CAD models and layouts of most of it. I went through a few iterations recently with this entire system getting it dialed in.. and this is my end result. I have used it out a few times now and super happy with how it came out and works so far. Lots of options out there and tons of ways to get to the same end result. This just incorporated what I need and want out of a 12v water setup.
