The until will operate the same with jbl or non-jbl systems. And your sound quality will not change, aside from having a few more EQ bands to control, which can be helpful sometimes

    Well, that's not my question....

Plan is to replace the head unit, add amps, new speakers and a new sub/box. I certainly hope the sound quality will change.....

I would like to hear from some one that actually has the unit...

I don't have that specific unit or the JBL system but I have the 9500es bundle with the regular "premium" system powered with a Kenwood X802-5 amp and it barely sounds better than stock. If you're expecting a night and day difference just by swapping head units you might want to lower your expectations a bit.

So everything I have (amp, speakers and sub) are out of my 2009. I can't believe that swapping out everything won't make a huge difference as the JBL system is COMPLETE TRASH!!! You cant even drive down the road and hear anything... I'm just trying to lock down a head unit that retains everything that the stock unit controls or that goes through it. Everything I have sounded fantastic in my 09.

You can definitely make it sound great with speaker upgrades, sound deadening, etc... but just simply doing a head unit swap will not make any major difference in sound quality. It can definitely get loud now due to being amped but sound quality still sucks. I plan on speaker upgrades along with some sound deadening in the future but for now I will leave it the way it is.

I am not sure about the AX6000 bundle but with my 9500es bundle I lost some functionality to the small info-screen in the middle of the cluster. When someone calls me, it will auto change to the Caller tab like it used to but will no longer display any info on the caller. If I change it to the Music tab, no information will display there also.

You answered your own question, if the system sounded great in your 2009 then something is different about the transplant. The system didn't all of a sudden become COMPLETE TRASH by changing the truck it's installed in. Sounds to me like the head units digital outputs aren't being utilized correctly. I've seen where JBLs digital signalling wasn't interfacing correctly and the system did sound like junk. It happened to me when I swapped to a cheaper headunit that didn't have digital outputs, I bought an off the shelf wiring interface for a tacoma but those aren't correct for a JBL system. Depending on the truck's harness you might have the same issue and not realize it. It may not even be possible depending on the newer model's wiring. It's kind of telling that it worked great in one truck and doesn't in another. In my case I swapped to a Kenwood head unit and a maestro truck interface and the JBLs original sound quality returned along with all the steering wheel controls. Prior to that I was looking at amps, subwoofers and speakers to fix the sound and it probably would have since installing all that would have eliminated the entire digital audio interface. If you end up swapping part of the system like the head unit I'd highly recommend the Maestro unit to interface back to the JBL amp and speakers. If you swap everything it's a moot point.

I think you read the post wrong. I'm looking for a head unit and have questions about the one I listed. Nothing has been swapped out yet. It still has everything stock.....

I think I need to clarify what I'm asking....

I'm looking to install a SONY XAV-AX6000 PLUG & PLAY BUNDLE | '16 - '23 TACOMA from Trail Grid Pro in my 2022 Limited Tacoma to replace the JBL system.. I already have (Not yet installed) a 4 channel amp, a 1 channel sub amp, door and dash speakers, a 10" sub and box that were all installed in my 2009 Tacoma.

My questions that I would like to hear from someone that has either the 6000 or the 4000...

How bad is the screen glare?
What if any functions did you loose? ie. Birds eye view camera?, wheel functions?, Dash functions? etc?
Are you overall happy with the upgrade?

    TIA.

Not sure about your bundle you want to install, just be sure to disconnect the battery during the installation. These newer trucks have way more electrical and sensors.

I installed the Sony AX6000 in my 2017 Tacoma with JBL. It works and sounds great. Radio and streaming sounds crisp and clear. CarPlay/wireless for iPhone is a huge upgrade. All steering wheel functions appear to work, but some of the functions on small display in middle of cluster will be missing. CarPlay functions replace those. I didn’t disconnect the battery…no issues.

I installed the Sony XAV-9000ES bundle from Trail Grid Pro. Everything but the blind spot monitors on the side view mirrors work. Bird eye cam, wheel functions etc. all work. The USB connection to play music is glitchy and only works with 3-4 insertion attempts. Overall, happy with the support from Trail Grid Pro. Stellar support team.

Technical side: I had a 4000, which I believe is the same chassis as the 6000 and was very happy with it. Ended up replacing with an 8500 to get a bigger screen. Never had issues with glare or anything. Upgraded all my speakers and tweeters at the same time and sound quality was noticeably better than factory.

All that, and wireless CarPlay is fantastic.

professional side: Trail Grid Pro are fantastic, definitely in the top tier of vendors in terms of support and value.
