Thinking about trading in my 2nd gen. Would I get less money with the bumper and cap still on?
It’s a 2015, I’m the original owner with 68k miles. I know the used car market is crazy right now, but are the 2nd gens getting good tradeins?

The Cap with it might get you somewhere but I think the bumper could hurt you. Dealers want cars as close to factory as they can get them

I'd think the cap may give you a tiny bit more $ in trade but likely not and the bumper will probably reduce what you get. But, if you're smart you won't trade it in at all and you'll sell private party instead and get much more in return.

It always baffles me why people trade vehicles in and leave thousands of dollars on the table for the dealer to make profit rather than keeping it for themselves :(

I recently saw an ad on craigslist for a free bumper for a tacoma that a dealership was trying to give away.
It was so big that it made the truck look small. Ugly too. It was gone in a day.

Here's a thought. With only 68k on your truck, keep driving it. You'll come out way better in the long run.

But if the itch is too bad, stock to trade in. But try an independent sale first, as is.

Damn, a 2nd Gen with only 68K miles? That’s basically a new car! lol.

I’m sure you will get a ton of money for it in this market regardless of taking or leaving the bumper. I second trying to sell it privately. Especially on a place like TW, you could probably find a buyer who really desires mods like a cap and a nice bumper.

Why not get top dollar by selling it privately in it's current condition? No need to get screwed financially by trading it in through a dealer. Well, I meant more screwed since you are buying in this overpriced market.

My son works in the auto sales business, and they hate when a truck comes in with a cap. They take them off and either put them in the dumpster or sell them cheap to someone they know that's lookmg for one.

If I ever sell my 08 I'm going to sell my cap before going to the dealership if I do a trade in.

I agree with the others. People are paying a lot of money for bed caps right now, probably more than what you would get from trading it in along with the truck. Same goes for the bumper.
