I currently have 2017 tacoma double cab 4 cyl. I never thought that I would need a 4x4 but now I really want to have it. I look at either frontier or ram 1500 with 4x4 will not change my payment at all. I want another tacoma but price is too high to keep my payment the same. Thank you for any suggestion. Btw I look at 2017 frontier 4x4 double cab with 15k miles and 2016 ram 1500 v6 Quad cab 15k miles.

Do not get a Frontier. It's a 10 year old truck that you're paying $30k for.

The all new redesigned Ram 1500 comes out this month or next. All the dealerships near me in Canada are doing 30% off of the 2017s to clear them out. I might be doing the swap, not sure yet..

I have owned a 2009 Ram with the 4.7 V8 then went to a 2010 with a Hemi. Later bought a 2012 Ram Laramie 4x4 Hemi then went to a 2014 Laramie Limited 4x4 Hemi. The last was my favorite truck of all the trucks I have owned. We wanted to downsize so the Tacoma was our best option.

There is nothing wrong with the Ram V6 but I think you might really find a good deal on a new 2018. Doesn’t hurt to look. I agree the Frontier is an old design but this Ram has been around since 2009.

    Good luck.

Depends what you want. A full size truck or a mid size.
    I traded in a 2009 Ram 1500 Quad 4x4 (hemi 5.7) for my 2016 Frontier Pro 4x.

The Frontier gets 2-4mpg better in town. It gets about the same for highway mpg.

Yes, the Frontier is dated. The good news is they worked out most of the bugs. The early transmission/radiator cross contamination has not been a issue since early 2010. The 4.0l is a good engine. The Frontier was not as quite as the 09 Ram. I felt the Ram with the coil rear springs has a smoother ride.

Most Nissan dealers are willing to bargain. Many of the Frontier can be had for way under 30K. I suggest you drive both, determine your needs, then decide.

I am very happy with my Frontier.

Lease return or certified pre-owned Frontier Pro-4x with the luxury package. Excellent trucks with few issues. Interior design and materials have a dated look but still come very loaded and functional. No shortage of power, good transmission, 265/75R16 ATs, full roof rack, spray in bed liner and beefy tie town rails on the sides and floor.

I don't see why anyone would tell you to stay away from the Frontier Pro-4x. I would at least look at them. Yes, they're dated, but that will be subjective whether you like it or not. As others have said; all the bugs are worked out. They've proven to be reliable and the engine is nice. It's also available in a manual transmission which would be the selling point for me. Not to mention that you can probably get a great deal on one.

The frontier engine has some balls unlike some other mid size truck engines. Probably worth a look

If money is tight and you don't do a ton of miles, a lease may be an option. I've seen deals around here on the TRD Sport 4x4 for $299 a month for 36 months. And I don't think the $ down was bad, like 2K maybe, but you can always work that into the price too. Just another option if you like the Tacoma and want to stick with one if you can.

Thank you for all suggestion, I will test drive to see if I like the frontier. For those who currently owned frontier, could you tell me how comfy of the back seat compare to tacoma? thank you

Slightly less room and the seat back is more upright, kind if a personal preference thing. I find the leather seats more comfortable.

I pitty the fool, lol. The Frontier is in the stone age compared to the Tacoma and I've only owned 720's and Hardbody's for over 30+. I switched to the Tacoma and haven't looked back except to see an out dated Frontier in the rearview mirror , and the Ram? well I never looked at a Dodge but no truck carries their value better than a Tacoma. Love my Tacoma $.02

I do like the ram better. I will test drive both to see. I know that taco hold value much more better than the rest but will see, I might opt for 2nd gen if I could make a deal on it

My biggest beef with the frontier was the turn radius. Took my father in laws for a spin and it was the first thing I noticed when I went back to park it.

Chryslers are terrible. Please run away screaming. Toyotas and nissans come with a short warranty, domestics come with a longer warranty, but guess which one you will use first. Do yourself a favor, get the asian truck that you can afford.
