I'm looking for recommendations on Recovery Boards. Would be very interested on the brands of the boards you chose and why as well as those you may have purchased that you were disappointed with. Performance, durability vs price are my main concerns.

No probs hombre; I was lurking around for info as I have been thinking about traction boards as of late since I want a recovery option without needing to use my rear point and relying on someone pulling me out, and I don't want to add a winch right now so traction boards seemed like the best option. I found that between the video and the comments and reviews below really provide a good second-hand knowledge base on the subject.

As DustStorm stated this is a very interesting read.
    Thank you for the link.
Decisions, decisions. If I said that I saw a clear winner among those listed I'd be lying. Guess I just need more input from those of you using them before trying to make a reasonably intelligent decision.
Cold and freezing temperatures are a major concern for me. Almost all polymers tend to get brittle in cold weather. On a flat surface I see little problem with any of them failing. In a deep rut in cold or freezing temperatures it is a different matter. I guess the question I should have asked is which would be better suited for use in cold weather?

I've been leaning towards the Maxsa boards, but I know several brands have ones that are built specifically for the winter (Treads, maybe?) Currently stationed in East Ga, so while it gets down between the 20s-40s, I don't really have much experience with the cold yet

Maxtrax hands down. Gotta play to pay and I have never heard of any issues with them cracking etc.

    *Pay to play?

Didn't we just see verifyable proof that the Maxsas and Maxtraxs are basically the same?

    I was being punny..

I have never heard or seen of Maxtrax cracking or breaking. The next closest "competitor" would have to be the treds and I have heard and seen of those cracking. See video below:

    Link to verifiable proof?

I was wondering if Nick put out a video. I knew he was working on a comparison and a review of all the traction boards. That's west coast. I was simply answering the OP's question about cold weather. Results might be different, for example, in the NE where he lives or in the Midwest where I'm located.

TREDS offer different lineups. The 800, 1100, and the Pro. Not everyone needs the best one and not everyone can afford the best ones.

From a comparison perspective. The Pros are as good if not better than Maxtrax and come with a lifetime warranty. People who had to replace them, have had no issues.

I’ve seen that video before and I’m pretty sure he’s comparing to the 800

IIRC there was one member here whose TREDS kept breaking, I think due to cold wx but I could be off (non-pro) and they kept giving him new pairs since it was always within the warranty. The dude now has quite a few pairs of TREDs and the defects he had with them were only small cracks so now he has a pair of new one and a bunch of decent backups.....Not too bad I guess. The PROs look nice and all though

Personally, I would rather pay more and have quality equipment when the need arises. No need to cut shortcuts on recovery equipment to save a buck now when it is truly needed out in the middle of nowhere..my .02 though..

Hahaha sorry, it stands for "Original Post/er" If you look at your little personnel box to the left it should say OP I think, or at least for us it shows it for whoever initially created the thread

    OP

Take a look at the warranty info on both MAxtrax and TRED Pros. You will notice that Maxtrax specifically points out that they do not warranty melted lugs due to tire spin, conversely TREDs were built so that the lugs don't melt under tire spin and if so would likely be covered under warranty.

So something to consider, we also recently had a TRED group buy and I'm sure we can get one rolling again.

Do you happen to recall what the unit price was on the group buy?
If the price was right I'd definately be interested in getting in on a group buy on the XD 1100's
