    Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is well. I got in my truck today, started it up and noticed my trac off light is on and my check engine light is on. Ive had the truck 6 years and never had a check engine light on before, seems to be running fine. I have a 2013 Tacoma. 4 cylinder. 4x4. Any suggestions?

Make sure the gas cap is tight. If that's not the problem, go to Autozone and have them read the codes.

Best I’m aware any CEL will set off the Trac off light. CEL disables you’re traction control, retards your ignition timing, and locks out the overdrive on an auto transmission.

Read the code, and you’ll know what the issue is.

Thanks! Went to autozone and the code that comes up P0138, bank 1 Sensor 2 O2 electrical signal had high voltage for a predetermined period of time. Im Wondering why this would make the trac off light come on?

Look for exhaust leaks before you spend any money. Do this when the engine is cold. When things heat up and expand, it'll be harder to locate.

Also clean the MAF sensor and TB with their respective cleaners. The butterfly in the TB is motor driven. Trying to open it could damage gears if you're not careful. Aside from spraying inside, I also use soaked q-tips to clean around the butterfly.

As for the MAF sensor, don 't touch that lil shiny bulb. It's fragile. Just spray it down.

When your done and start it up, it's gonna idle high. No worries. Watch and you'll see it come down in steps as the ECU sees that it doesn't need the TB open so far. All that stuff you cleaned out of the TB was impeding airflow, and the truck was compensating for that.

I’ve had the same issue for almost a year. The trac and engine light will come on randomly, then go off, doesn’t happen often, probably only 3 times. I’ve just ignored it and it’s been fine, no noticeably difference in performance or fuel economy. You might be good to just leave it alone

Hell of a coincidence, I just had the exact same thing happen to me today. I pulled the negative connection to the battery and it cleared after a few minutes. What I believe caused my issue was that I left the rear lights button on after I parked the truck. When I started it up the CEL and traction control lights were lit and I noticed when I put it in Drive the R on the instrument PRDN cluster was still lit. That had me stressed for a minute when I realized the backup camera was still on. I have a button that turns on my auxiliary rear lights and when I got the frame replaced the technician wired it to the reverse signal and wired the lights to the OEM backup lights. Now when I push the auxiliary rear light button the camera turns on also. It was cool, but I believe it caused me the CEL and Trac lights to go on.

Yes, that will cause a CEL having more than one indication for the gear on at the same time.
