So I noticed that my check engine light and trac off lights came on today. I read through david k's thread regarding these modes but I have a simple question for the communtiy.
I recently noticed that my 4wd actuator was cracked and I was going to replace it soon. Would this cause the trac off and check engine lights to come on?
In davids thread it basically says when trac is off the engine isnt "limited" and braking functions change.
It also feels like the truck is stuck in hi4.
Would someone with a bit more knowledge please help a brother out?

Did you get your codes checked? Last two times the CE and Track Off lights were both on I was running rich due to a MAF sensor issue.

Haven't checked codes...going to a buddys place tomorrow to have him run a diagnostic. This happened about an hour ago. The truck feels like its in hi4...just drives different. I guess ill find out for sure tomorrow...
Thanks for the input on the maf cal...i'll check that as well. Could very well be that as well...ive been averaging about 20gal less per tank...I just assumed it was due to going to 33's on the truck.

Got an oil change today about 15 minutes before the lights came on as well...not sure if its related, just seems suspect.

Ran out to oreillys and bought an obd scanner and it was the maf sensor. I reset it, but this is the second time the code has come up. The first time trac off didnt come on so it kinda threw me off this time. Gonna call urd tomorrow and talk to the performance shop that installed my engine components.

i have a 2010 sport trd tacoma 4x4, and had the same issue. check engine and traction control lights came up. here is the detail info of what happened.

there was heavy rains at home, so my city was flooded, a car was stuck, so he asked for help. as i was towing it with a strap, i used the 4x4 high to have more power, as i stepped on the gas i fell into a small hole (9inch deep) and heard a strong sound, as when something cracks. i tought it was the mud flap or the fender hiting the pavement. as soon as i heard that both lights came out. so i tought some water got into the engine and thats why i got the check engine light. i went home let it dry for a few days hoping it would go away and it was still there. disconnected the battery 15 minutes, plugged back in, and the light was gone for 5 minutes, then back on. so i took it to Autozone as i dont have a dealership close by, and it gave me a few errors. low oil, O2 sensor fail, so the guy told me i had to go to a dealership for that, as they dont carry the sensors.

i had a look on the engine and everything "seem" fine as in no oil leaking, no wires unplugged, 4x4 ok, nothing out of the ordinary.

but before taking the long trip i noticed i had to do an oil change. and so i tought that was probably why i had the check engine light on. changed oil, and cleaned air filter, and changed oil filter. no problem...

i spoke to my local mechaninc(age 65) and told him i was going on a trip, and asked him what he tought. he said, bring it for a quick inspection. he plugged in a small machine he had(much cheapier looking than the one at Autozone.he read the same errors, and popped the hood. he looked at it, grabbed a screw driver, and fixed the hose that goes from engine to air filter. for some reason it had come loose and the sensor that was inside was not getting enough oxygen so it gave me a light. as soon as i plugged it back in a few minutes later of running the truck both lights went off on its own!! amazing. and there i was taking a 3 hour trip each way to get the hose reconnected by the dealership which i think it might of charged me $300. my mechanic only charged me $10 so i saved my time, my gas, and the money the dealership was going to charge me.

I just noticed you had a URD intake, my issue was that my MAF extension wires came loose. I had to cut the wires and re-solder the extension. You can tell if the wire connection is loose by jiggling the extension while the engine is running. If it is, then the engine will probably react by sputtering a bit.

But then, I installed it myself and did a shitty wiring job. If URD installed it, it is probably sound. Calling them would definitely be a good idea, Gadget is the man and knows his shit. They also have a forum here.

So I also have a 2010 TRD Sport 4x4 and two days ago the Check engine light and the traction control lights came on. I did bring it to the Toyota Dealer and they just quoted me $585 for a new Charcoal Canister. He also said that its not a huge deal to get taken care of right away. So I planned on taking around to a few different places and see if I can get a lower install price.

Don't know if that helps much, but apparently thats the problem with mine.

The guy at the dealership told me thats what usually causes the problem. And I am guilty of that, but I guarantee I won't be doing that anymore.

So I'm going to have to travel to another location with my job. South Texas. Had a friend who used to live there and he told me to get a lock on my gas cap, lol. Bought one yesterday and put it on. This morning, my CEL and NO TRAC light was on. Gotta figure it was the new gas cap as I've had no problems before this. No loss of power or anything, just the lights on. Will replace the cap with the original one and reset it by removing the battery post for an hour or so. My OBDI II meter was stolen from my son's truck 3 months ago and I just don't feel like buying another one. Will do the cheap reset and see how it works.
