When I bought my truck, it had nearly new Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP tires, but they were too noisy for daily driving, so I got a set of more street-able tires. I also picked up a set of OEM steel wheels (that had TPS sensors) and had the removed Dick Cepek tires installed for use as 'winter tires'.

This weekend I swapped over to the winter tires. I was expecting to see a warning light on the dash due to the new wheels TPS sensors not being programmed to the truck, but there's no warning light. I toggled the dash center display to view the tire info screen and (as expected) it shows "--" for each tire pressure. My local tire shop said they'll reprogram the new wheel TPS sensors for free, so I'll probably get that done this week.

The reason I question the 'no TPS warning light' is unless I'm diligent on checking the tire information screen on a regular basis, I'll get no warning of low tire pressure. Does this sound correct?

Perhaps you don't remember the time when the only accurate check of tire air pressure involved a gauge and a walk-around.

I doubt that Toyota designed the TPS system to account for those of use who swap tires & wheels for the Winter & Summer seasons. I go thru this with my '06 twice a year. Does no real good for the system however 'cuz the sensor in the spare tire died a couple years ago and there's doesn't seem to be a way to exclude the spare from the system. I've just learned to ignore the flashing idiot light in the dash.

They actually did. Certain Toyota models allow 2 sets of tires to be programmed into the TPMS ECU.

For the spare sensor either install it in your spare, drill and install it as a second sensor in one of your tires, or build a pressure vessel and install it in that a tie it up somewhere.

TMPS missing light doesn't come on until after 20/30min constant driving.
I make it most of the winter without my light coming on unless I get out on the highway for a trip.
Then it take a few short trips for it to go away.

    Tire gauge + walk around.

TPMS is a warning system to alert to a tire going flat while driving. The early warning should allow the driver to slow and get off the road under control before the vehicle is on the rim.

Its not meant to replace a walk around with a tire pressure gauge.

Went in for my first service last week. Told them I swapped tires and rims from a 2021 TRD Sport and asked them if they could reprogram them to my 4x4 SR. Said would take two hours and cost me a couple hundred bucks to do it. Screw that and them. SR doesn't even show individual tire pressure so it's basically useless to me.
Been driving for 52 years and never needed a sensor to tell me to check my tires. My eyes and a pressure gauge is all I've ever needed.
One more already paid for oil change and they won't see me anymore unless it's a warranty issue.

That is crazy. If you have the Sensor IDs, you can program them with the Carista app or TechStream. For TechStream, you'd need a more pricey adapter.
