This is best, the headaches with aftermarkets isn't worth it.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on aftermarket sensors, as well as compatibility issues with some trucks. OEM is obviously the best choice but yeah they're pretty spendy. Looks like they're around $65 each.

I bought a set of Denso from Amazon and they seem to work fine. It hurt but less than buying them from Toyota directly.

I had my tire shop install some aftermarket ones on my 4Runner and have had zero issues with them. I haven't done any TPMS sensors on my Tacoma after going to aftermarket wheels (bought them through a different shop and they wanted $60 per sensor for aftermarket sensors, my regular tire shop only wants $20 a sensor for aftermarket ones). My light hasn't come on yet and it's been probably three months. I'll wait till it comes on then I'll go have my regular shop put their aftermarket ones in.

If I remember correctly from what I've read, Denso supplies the sensors to Toyota but they're actually manufactured by Parker Industries for Denso. They're about $39 ea on Amazon.... You can go this route and save some loot.....

****Edit - The manufacturer is actually Pacific Industrial......

You may be thinking of Pacific Industrial. You can save some money if you can find TPMS sensors from Pacific re-boxed. That's the company that usually makes TPMS sensors for the Japanese brands. I think Pacific is the direct supplier to Toyota.

    https://www.pacific-ind.co.jp/eng/

Typically companies like Beck-Arnley or Dorman (and others, NAPA, etc.) do not actually make their own replacement parts and they'll sometimes get them straight from the original supplier. The problem is there's no guarantee that an aftermarket brand won't find a cheaper company in China to knock off the part either.

So part of the reason you buy directly from Toyota is you're pretty sure it's done to spec and not counterfeit. In this case Denso doesn't make TPMS sensors and is the company re-boxing them. But they are also a legitimate company (being another major primary supplier to Toyota for parts they do make) so the reason to buy from them is you can usually trust they aren't fakes either and should be a little cheaper than Toyota.

7 cars worth of TMPS from Discount Tire since 2010 or so. Zero issues. There is your answer.

Tire Discounters broke one my sensors and replaced it with whatever aftermarket ones they carry. Zero issues...and that was nearly 2 years ago.

And my daughter's 10 year old Yaris has had a couple of sensors die. Again...no issues with the AM replacements

That's what Tire Discounters uses. They cloned the sensor that they broke from my Tacoma. A sensor can be cloned as long as it's still transmitting a signal.

But in the case of my daughter's Yaris, the sensors had died. Can't clone a dead one. They simply dumped the new sensor's info into the OBDII port overwriting the old info

Since you already have a 2016 I'd use the old sensors in the new wheels. Sensors typically last 7-10 years. Your truck is only 4 years old so you should be good until you need tires the next time. Before buying my next set of tires I'd locate some and have them installed with the next set of tires. If your truck were a 2014 or older I'd probably spend the money for new ones now.

And I've used aftermarket sensors in the past. Worked great.

This is correct info. Pacific Industries manufactures each and every TPMS sensor in the Tacoma. Pacific also manufactures the rubber snap-in valve used on the spare assembly of every Tacoma or also the ground assemblies on the export market Tacomas where TPMS sensors are not used.

Pacific Air Controls out of Ohio supplies the sensors at the factory for the 2016 models. I am sure Denso is just as good though, they are a trusted supplier of Toyota.
